I'm probably making some things more complicated than they need to be, but I am hoping that if I keep having so much fun with the archery I can join a longbow group that also does some creative/re-enactment stuff, and I might want to use this costume there. So it needs to be functional too.

I'll be there on the saturday! And I'm going to try to get some good photos. Can't exactly carry my big camera myself, and it feels a bit much to ask my friend to carry it..

This sounds like it'll look absolutely stunning when you're finished.

As for the legal aspects, I think you'd be OK with a Bowie-type knife. You want to eat at a camp fire and spear the Big Lumps of Meat don't you? Using foam weapons for that purpose could well be an Elf and Safety issue. The arrows should not be hunting arrows or bodkin arrows (for historical accuracy, honest Guv) with blades. Even so, I think the smeris could make a good point against carrying the things in a quiver ready to fire. Maybe you should ask your friendly neighborhood copper, in the most hypothetical of terms of course, what you could have.
