The news in brief

  • Survived 8 day in-law visit without major incident and with less hair-tearing than anticipated (mine, not theirs)
  • Had a fun birthday party for Quinn with the obligatory chocolaty mess on face, hands, highchair, clothes, etc.
  • But I experienced the highlight of the in-law visit on the next day when I missed out on cleaning up the chocolate diaper!

Congratulations! Particularly on the lack of dirty diaper clean-up. Always a fun miss.

I spoke to Eric briefly last week and he sounded a little directionless. Hopefully things will change shortly and he will be able to do stuff he likes.

I can't believe he's going to be two on Sunday. Unbelievable. Have you gone to the doctor yet and gotten his vital stats?

Wow, you've seen your in-laws a lot this year. Not a bad thing. I guess it means Chicago really isn't that far away. If you don't mind giving up your son, you might have plenty of time! I can't imagine D&D wouldn't love to have him for as much time as they could get. This is for Stevie's graduation?

Went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and forgot to post it....I think my brain has been half turned off for a little bit here. Stats are 34" long and almost 27 lbs. He's on a steady curve for length (about 40th percentile, I think) but has jumped up again in weight. I don't know what percentile he is now but it's probably edging up to 40 or so. Hopefully it'll level off now, but from what I've read, it's much more common for the weight percentile to wander around the first few years than the length. So in other words, he is just right! :)

Yes, the Chicago trip is for Stevie's graduation. Hopefully it'll work out so we can all go (well, except for Becca - she's going to Colby reunion weekend).

It's pretty obvious that he's "just right". I would imagine that weight percentile would change in the early years depending on where he is with growth spurts.

Just curious, how old was Quinn when you switched him to a forward facing car seat?

It was right after his first birthday. Based on his length and the specifications of our car seat, that was the time to do it. From what I've read it's good to keep them rear-facing as long as possible (or at least a year), and certainly the weight limit was no problem for Quinn, just the length.

The reason we took him out of his infant seat was length as well - the weight limit on it seemed really high to me, but I guess that's probably because Quinn didn't weigh too much in his first year. Occasionally when we're out and about I'll see a baby who looks way to big for an infant seat stuffed into one - I know that you want to get as much use out of everything as you can, but a car seat is really something that you want to stick with the rules in the manual!
