I was sure I had read and commented on this, but apparently not. I just listened to nos4a2no9's podfic of this, and both it and the story itself was beautiful. It really moved me, and I don't at all think the angst is overdone (like you hint at in the notes). I like how you don't say everything about what happened with Steve. I also really like your Fraser narrative voice. And the sex, it's so tender and Ray is so completely wonderful. Ahem. Sorry, I'm not very coherent. : )

I love this:

I am not the boy I was. I have since loved a woman with my mouth until her sharp cries filled my ears. I want to hear what Ray sounds like when he is lost in the same pleasure.

Wow, what a lovely note. Thank you for taking the time to comment on an older story.

I'm so glad you enjoyed Fraser's voice. Can't tell you how it made me smile to see you enjoyed tender, wonderful Ray. I love him so.

Thank you so very much.

pookie! May I just say how cool it was to meet you and have a lovely face to put to your words?

Unexpected, and really kind of you to take the time to write me such an amazing note.

Writers get tangled in their own angst.

It's so very easy to, and God knows I was tempted to in writing this. But I really wanted to undercut, so I every time I was tempted I went in with a Xacto blade and sliced out the overly-squishy parts before moving on.

(That sounds gross, but it was bloodless, I swear. :)

I really like that image you evoke of Fraser managing Steve. Having the maturity and the control he lacked when he was younger.

And I love Ray. For what it's worth. If I could have Ray in this story?

\o/ ::hearts intuitive Ray with a passion::

And I'm so touched to learn you found this worth re-reading. I smish you, in the name of all that is holy among fangirls. I will pummel the hell out of them in your name, I swear.

I want to smack the everloving hell out of Steve, though now that I'm out of the story, I'm not sure how much of it was him and how much of it was Fraser.

Poor silly Fraser and his lack of self-defense.

I think he was too young to articulate his boundaries, and Steve was selfish and a little willfully oblivious. Still, who knows if Fraser ever learned better as an adult? I look at Victoria and I think not.

Thanks for commenting on an older story. Made me smile to think they are still being read.

Oh, this is wonderful. Your prose is beautiful and economical. Fraser's pain is so firmly contained, but that just makes it fiercer and more intense, like water perpetually on the edge of boiling over. I love the strength, ferocity even, of his reactions, and his fear of them - wanting to run away when Ray gets too close, before things can get too serious - except of course Ray won't let him.

The ending is perfect, too. Hopeful, because Fraser has opened up a bit, but still contained by his reserve.
