Holier Than Thou

Normally I like the pregnant LJ groups... there's too many "natural birth" divas on them and not enough moms who have had differing experiences.  The divas always gang up on moms mentioning "induction" or god forbid "c-section", so I always pop in with something along the lines of "they aren't the end of the world, be educated and know what you're ( Read more... )

Oi, I'm sorry that happened to you. I hate that! That's why I stick to my group of LJ friends and don't venture too far afield.

You have DEFINITELY given birth! My mother had to have C-sections with both me and my sister or we would have died. Would those divas prefer a heartbreaking death just so they could say they didn't have a C-section. Good Lord, I hope not...

I think the biggest fuss I get is that I didn't have something like pre-e (which obviously requires a c-section to keep mom & baby alive), so I can't even mention my first was CPD (then I get the screams of "they can't really diagnose that during pregnancy"), which is a pain to explain that my doc knew beforehand that I had a malformed pelvis (and none of their business why I have one). Then my second was breech and OMG, you didn't try to TURN him first. Nah, we thought it might be fun to try to birth him feet first and risk a long labor and possible incision rupture ( ... )

My best friend is having a scheduled c section this month. She had a c section with her 1st son because he had spina bifida. So she has an 18 inch scar. Her Dr. says that it is way to dangerous to labor naturally so a c section is best. Even though it is for health reasons, she gets 'yelled' at all the time about it. These people who have no idea what it is like to have a c section bug me. Granted, I havent had one, but I know it isnt a damn vacation!

It's not a vacation, nope, but it's not the horrorfest some of the divas like to proclaim.

Good luck to your friend... those larger incisions are not fun to heal from, and definately dangerous to go into labor. Hope all goes well with her and baby.

I hated that when I was in the pregnancy groups. I had a natural child birth with Leia - but that was far from my idea :P Give me drugs man... next time (IF there is a next time) I'll be going into the hospital a week before for an epidural! I'm sick of all the ---- nazi's on here. It's your decision, your life, they should butt the hell out! IMO!

I stick around the groups b/c someone has to be nice to the poor c-section moms. ;-)

The irony of my c-section history is that I'm terrified of epidurals and refused one with my first long labor and specifically grilled my doctor that I can have a spinal this time. If I could VBAC, I'd be in for a natural birth anyway, since I know injectible drugs don't help me and I still have my epidural phobia... man, gals who can handle one of those have MY respect because they give me the hives just to think about.

I was scheduled to be induced the Monday after my son was actually born. That would have put me just over 42 weeks, but I went into labor on my own. After 36 hours at 1.5 cm, with pitocin for part of the second day still not helping me... the c-section was not the horrorfest everyone told me it would be. I got a healthy baby and was on my feet within 12 hours of the surgery. If I hadn't had the surgery, I'd have still been in labor with a baby who simply couldn't be born that route.

I'd like to see this Crunchy Diva even try to recoup from a c-section... I had no idea what I was in for from the start... And with only 6 weeks before Anthony's birth, I hadn't even begun to look at c-sections... Then I had to have one, and I didn't even know what hit me... Silly uneducated little brat she is...

I was terrified of surgery with my first (and even more afraid of an epidural), but that wore off after 36 hours of labor. My first c-section was extremely "easy" as far as major surgery goes. My second wasn't as much fun, but because I didn't know enough about my anesthetic's possible side effects, I let a nurse bully me and ended up with a reaction (aka spinal headache - yowsers). If not for the headache, it wouldn't have been that bad.
