I'm so glad you loved this! I'm sort of in love with my version of Derek. I really wish he'd get his act together on the show, not that I can't see where show!Derek is coming from, at least. So glad you liked the dancing and everything. This whole section of Christmas was last minute inspiration, really. My original notes were just for a quick wake up on Christmas morning that was happy and fluffy. I'm so glad I got to expand. I've really enjoyed taking a breather from all the angst and letting MerDer have fun!

I had a suspicion about what he was going to do in the first part when he said he was talking to Kathy but then Stu came and it was confirmed and then the missing ring and I found myself wanting to rush through to the end because I knew it was happening and just..it was perfect. So effing perfect. The lavender detail is amazing. The gazebo with the lights and the mistletoe and the song! yaay for the song! and the danciiiing. And just..everything. His speech was just perfect. And Mer trying to protest. Her dropping down on her knees to be level with him just had me break down. "It's definitely lightning." And her last line and I just..I'm not making sense and I'm rambling. Sorry.

This is perfection.

I'm so glad you liked all this :) The lavender was actually going to be a red rose, originally, but beta readers didn't like the connotations of a rose on his lapel :) I think it worked out great in the end!

If this is what comes from stirring cookie dough, I'm buying stock in Nestle. Oh, how much do I love a Shepherd Christmas? So much. A whole lotta much.
I love your Der. I really, really do. You've made Derek into a very real, flawed, but wonderful guy in a way that the show just hasn't. (PD is doing a damn good job with what he's given, though).
You gave him closure with Addison, realistic friendship mending with Mark, and a connection to his family. Derek needs/needed all that (and so do we, so thanks!)
And I'm leaving out Mere purposefully here because I can't accurately describe how far she's grown in this story...She's baking freaking cookies with the McFamily;)! Loved her freakout over the ring by the way (both the taking off and the "misplacing")...illustrates how much the ring and the man behind it mean to her in a perfectly simple way.
I've been a bit of a grump this year about Christmas but this chapter reminds me why I love it...Cookies, family, surprises, and incredibly beautiful men under mistletoe. Love it;)

I love cookie dough, yes I do. Writing this chapter made me hungry :) I'm glad you liked the Derek/Mark mending. They still have a ways to go, but at least they're sort of healing naturally now instead of just glaring at each other all the time or ignoring the problem.
