Never saw the film, but 'Passion' is a wonderful album on its own... movie or not.
And I have to keep reminding myself I have a working turntable now, so I can get out my LP copy of Mr Heartbeak which I haven't heard in yeeeaarrs...
It's just my not-so-humble opinion, but I think Ant(h)ony is a white male Beyoncé ~ never hit just note when you can hit the other four around it & he's a bit prone to über-Buckley over-emoting. His version of 'If It Be Your Will' in the Cohen tribute concert was just that... overwrung & oversung. He was also rather difficult to watch, as he seemed awfully uncomfortable & awkward, as did Martha Wainwright in the same show. Great voices, the pair of them, but... meh...
Oh wow! Then you seeing the movie will definitely be a very different experience from mine. Thinking back on it, I suspect it was very flawed but dude, Willem Dafoe as Jesus! And Jesus/Mary Magdalene sex! Whoops, was that a spoiler? Please watch it at some point cos I'm sure you'll have an opinion worth canvassing!
I haven't had a chance to listen to Mr (Mister?) Heartbreak all the way through but I'll tell you now the first song is muuuuuuch longer than the version I know from the anthology. Judgement pending
