Funding for an M.A. in the UK

I met with my former major adviser today, and as we were discussing the process of applying to grad school, she brought up Courtauld Institute of Art. To be honest, if their M.A. is viewed favorably in the US and I could expect to be able to go on to Ph.D. studies at an American university, this option would be attractive to me. Courtauld has an excellent rep in the U.S. however, they have limited funding available for abroad MAs ( ... )

I don't know a great deal about any of the programmes that they offer, but some of the constituent colleges of the University of the Arts London also have an excellent reputation.

From what my friends who studied Art at university tell me, Central St. Martins, and I think perhaps the Chelsea College of Art and Design, are particularly strong.

I'm afraid I don't know much about the funding situation at those particular colleges, but postgraduate funding in the UK is generally quite difficult to get your hands on.

I had a friend who applied to Courtauld Institute ... M.A. program, loved it, finished it and now getting a PhD in Harvard. she doesn't have the sharp mind too but for some reason, the Courtauld Institute had a huge impact on her acceptance to Harvard or so. (advisors talk to each other overseas as well.) good luck! i'd say go for it anyway, explore Europe and find yourself because a PhD is an expensive and long commitment .. especially when it's art history ....
