Chapter Two - White Hot, White Hot

--

Kiseop and the crowd eyed each other at the gates. He blinked a few times, slowly reaching for the gate, then moved past it to run his fingers through his hair with a grin. A few of the girls screamed while others groaned. It was hot and everyone wanted to enjoy a dip in the pool. He’d changed from the black shorts to red lifeguard swim trunks.

“Okay, okay, I’ll stop.” He laughed and unlocked the gates, standing off to the side as people rushed into the pool. He leaned on the gates to watch them run in, and narrowly dodged a group of girls running by him, screaming and taking pictures.

“Hey, no running!” He shouted at some other girls. He shook his head and sighed before heading over to his lifeguard chair.

“Oh Kiseop!” Kiseop pretended not to hear Kevin’s voice and continued toward his chair. “Kiseop~! Don’t be so mean!” Kevin shuffled up beside him and held his arm. He was in swim trunks as well, a towel slung over his shoulder and a bottle of sunscreen in his hands.

“Oh. Kevin. Didn’t see you there. Off of work already?”

“Yeah! Xander gave me the rest of the day off. But help me with my sunscreen! I can’t reach my back!” Kiseop turned to look around the pool and noticed a massive amount of eyes on them. He sighed again. It couldn’t be helped. He took the bottle of sunscreen from Kevin and squeezed some into his hands.

“Alright, turn around.” Kevin turned around excitedly and started to put sunscreen on his arms. Kiseop started to massage in the sunscreen when he heard pictures being taken. He frowned as he felt some knots in Kevin’s shoulders. “Kevin, why didn’t you tell me you had knots?” He pressed harder to massage them out. Kevin yelped and leaned forward. “Don’t do that! That hurts!”

“Whiner.” Kiseop slapped on the rest of the sunscreen and started to rub it wildly around Kevin’s back. Neither of them noticed Alexander coming into the pool, giving them both the patented scandalized Alexander glare.

He breathed out angrily and looked around. He needed a distraction. He dropped his things quickly on a nearby chair and jumped into the water. He waded out to the middle of the pool before starting to thrash about wildly.

“Help! Help!” Kiseop looked up in alarm and saw someone flailing in the middle of the pool. He ran and dived into the pool, swimming quickly over to him and grabbing the man before paddling back to the side where it was safe.

Kiseop strained to push him onto the concrete and climbed out after him, breathing hard. Kevin and other spectators gathered around anxiously as Kiseop listened for breathing. He wiped away the hair from his face and stopped. “Alexander?!” Kevin screeched. “You know perfectly well how to swim!” Alexander opened his eyes and sat up, wiping water away from his face. “Oh yeah. I do, don’t I? Did you put on your sunscreen yet, because I can help you with that.” The crowd mumbled and dispersed, leaving a confused Kiseop, still on his knees.

“Uhh... what just happened here?” Kiseop said to himself before turning to see Kevin still yelling angrily at Alexander while he rubbed sunscreen on Kevin’s back. He decided not to dwell on his friend’s strange relationship. Kiseop stood back up and took his post on top of the high chair.

--

Kiseop ushered the people out like cattle when it was time for the pool to close. He noticed the smiling face of his boss come into view as the last of the guests left the pool. “Hey boss. Pool’s closed.”

“I’m the boss, it doesn’t matter.” Soohyun stepped inside and closed the gates behind him. Kiseop in his right mind couldn’t leave Soohyun alone at the pool. What if something happened and he drowned? Kiseop followed the other man silently and sat down at the edge, dipping his feet into the water as Soohyun jumped in.

“Can Xander swim?” Kiseop asked curiously kicking at the water. He hadn’t seen Kevin and his boss since he rescued him from the pool. “Kind of?” Soohyun floated over to Kiseop and grabbed the edge of the pool. “He can doggy paddle. And stay afloat.” Kiseop just nodded and kicked some water up.

“Why?”

“I saved him from ‘drowning’ today.” Kiseop made the air quotes around the word drowning. “I see... was Kevin here?” He nodded.

“Those two are... weird. And I’m not even going to lie, Xander gets really stupid around Kevin. They just have a... communication problem.” Soohyun lifted himself out of the pool and sat down next to Kiseop, letting the water drip off of his body. Kiseop leaned back on his arms and stared off into the distance.

Soohyun leaned over and hovered over Kiseop, boths hands on either side of the boy, dripping water on him. Kiseop’s attention turned to his boss in an instant. Their faces were rather close together. He could feel Soohyun’s breath on his cheek. “Hey Kiseop.”

“What?” They stayed that way for a couple seconds before Soohyun grinned and wrapped his arms around the other boy, hurling him into the pool. Kiseop barely had time to grab onto Soohyun to drag into into the pool too. They let go of each other as Kiseop pushed up from the bottom, spluttering and splashing water around.

“YOU! This is my favorite hat!” Kiseop yelled, pulling the wet hat off of his head, wringing the water out. “It’s a hat it’ll dry,” Soohyun said while laughing. “It’s my favorite hat! What if it shrinks?!”

“I’ll buy you a new one.”

“But this one is my favorite!”

“Well, I’ll buy you a new favorite.” Kiseop splash some water up in anger with his free hand and threw his hat over onto the dry concrete. Soohyun ran at him through the water as soon as he lookced away and tackled him into the water.

Kiseop tried to push him off underneath the water, but Soohyun had a good grip around his waist. He swam towards the edge of the pool and pulled himself above the surface, gasping for air. Soohyun’s arms were still firmly around his waist as Kiseop glared at him. “What?” It was Kiseop’s turn to grin as he reached out and shove Soohyun’s head under the water.

He felt his grip loosen on him and took this chance to swim away as fast as he could. This continued on for a while, maybe longer than it should have. Both men were in good shape. Kiseop pulled himself out of the water and tried to run away without slipping on the concrete, but Soohyun was faster than he looked, chasing Kiseop down. Kiseop doubled back towards the pool and turned around in time for Soohyun to tackle him into the pool.

Maybe it was because he got out of the pool in the first place. Maybe it was because of all the exercise he was getting. But now his body felt unbearably hot in the once cool water. Both of them broke the surface of the water, gasping for air. Kiseop didn’t even get to finish catching his breath before he felt Soohyun crash his lips against his. He groaned in protest and pressed his hands to his chest, trying to push him away, but Soohyun wrapped his arms around Kiseop’s waist again, pulling him closer.

Kiseop finally gave in and decided to take slow deep breaths through his nose while his hands gripped Soohyun’s shoulders. After a moment or two, they pulled away from each other, chests heaving.

The two of them stared at each other for a moment before Kiseop’s stomach growled. Soohyun gave him a look and raised an eyebrow. “Give me a break!” Kiseop said, blush forming on his face. “I haven’t eaten since lunch!”

“I didn’t say anything.” Soohyun gave him a grin and ruffled his wet hair. “But I’m hungry too. Let’s get dinner.”

“Did you bring a towel?”

“No. It’s okay. We can track water through the hotel. The only person who would complain is Kevin because he’d have to clean it up.”

--

Kevin couldn’t ever be really mad at Alexander. Despite what they showed to the public, Kevin really did care a lot about him, and always got mad when Alexander did something to make him worry. He was sitting on the balcony of the presidential suite of the hotel. Currently it was unrented, which meant it was for Alexander and Soohyun’s use until it was.

The view overlooked the city lights. Kevin sighed at the sight and leaned back in the foldable cushion. He turned his head towards the sliding doors when he heard them open, Alexander stepping through them with two dessert plates in his hands.

“Thought you could use something sugary and fattening.” Kevin rolled his eyes but took the plate from him anyway. He scooted over so Alexander could sit down next to him. They ate in silence, catching glances at each other every now and then.

Suddenly Kevin put his fork down and looked at Alexander. “Is that why you never wanna kiss me? Because you thought we weren’t dating?” Alexander choked on his piece of cake. Kevin patted him on the back roughly as Alexander tried to catch his breath.

His hand flew to his chest as he took a deep breath. “To be honest, I wasn’t really sure... what we were. You’re kind of touchy feely with everyone so it’s hard for me to figure out.” Kevin frowned. “But I spend the most time with you! And I always eat lunch with you, and I even let you hold my stuffed animals.”

Kevin sighed at the look Alexander gave him. He mumbled something under his breath, but Kevin managed to catch Kiseop’s name.

“Kiseop is just my roommate! We’re really good friends. So of course I’d be affectionate with him. And I hate eating with him. He eats too much.” Alexander laughed at the way Kevin pouted. Kevin was just too cute for his own good.

“But we’re dating! I’ve declared it! So you can hug me, and we can hold hands, and you can kiss me whenever you-” Kevin was cut off by a clumsy kiss from Alexander. He couldn’t help but smile into the kiss and reached a hand up to cup his face. Alexander pulled away with a bright smile. Kevin’s hand moved from his cheek to his chin before he grabbed it and shook his head.
“Ohh, you’re so cute sometimes.” Alexander laughed until he processed his words. “Excuse me? Sometimes? I’m cute all of the time.” Kevin rolled his eyes and put his hands on his hips and gave Alexander the best diva glare he could muster.

“Uh, no. I believe I’m the one who’s cute all the time. And you should just leave being cute up to me anyway. I’m better at it.” Alexander opened his mouth to retaliate, but the sound of the door beeping open cut him off. Both of the looked through the sliding doors to see Kiseop and Soohyun tangled in each other’s arms, each one fighting for dominance as they got closer to the bed.

“Oh gross!” Kevin yelled shielding his eyes. Soohyun’s eyes snapped open as he heard Kevin yell and abruptly got off of Kiseop, who also got up and blinked rapidly, straightening his clothes and his hair.

“Oh. Hi guys. We didn’t see you there.” Kevin’s eyes were still covered as Alexander gave them a look of utmost horror. Kiseop grinned and turned to look at Soohyun before straightening his collar, but not before Alexander noticed the red mark on his neck.

“It’s safe to look Kevin.” Kevin slowly lowered his hands from his eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. “You guys are so gross! Ever heard of knocking?!”

“Well. We didn’t know where you guys were so...” Soohyun rubbed the back of his neck and laughed sheepishly while Kiseop looked around the room curiously. Alexander and Kevin walked hand in hand through the sliding door and closed it behind them.

“What was that on your neck?” Alexander asked with an evil glint in his eyes. “What? Oh. I fell.”

“On a pair of lips?” Kiseop started to laugh uncontrollably at Alexander’s comment and fell over onto the floor. “Would you stop laughing? It’s your fault!” Soohyun nudged the boy on the floor with his shoe and rolled his eyes as Kiseop grabbed his leg.

“I’m glad you two are getting along.”

“Getting along? They’re practically the same people.”

“You’re only saying that because both of them like to make fun of you.”

--

After the initial awkwardness, the four of them sat around and ordered room service. Kiseop still didn’t get to eat because he and Soohyun got distracted on the way to the dining area. “Oh yeah, by the way Kevin. There’s a bunch of pools of water in the lobby. Someone must have tracked them in from the pool.

Kevin plugged his fingers with his hears. “Lalala, I’m not listening, I’m not even working right now, lalala!”

Kiseop gave him a look. “Really? It doesn’t bother you? The mess? At all? Where people can see? And slip in?” Kevin chewed on his lip as his eyes narrowed at Kiseop. “You. You are...”

“Beautiful? Gorgeous? A genius?”

“I’ll attest to the first two, but I’m not so sure about that third one.” Kiseop punched Soohyun in the arm and took another bite of food.

“I just... UGH! Now I want to go down there and clean it up. I hate you Kiseop.”

“Well, you can go down there later. One of the ballrooms was rented out for a DJ visiting. It’s quite the party I’m told. We should swing by it later.” Kiseop made his bubble face then frowned. “I can’t go wearing this.”

“Then go shirtless. There’s nothing wrong with going shirtless.”
