People were whispering wherever Woohyun went. Woohyun didn’t know what was different now. He still dressed the same way, he still hung out with the same people. It wasn’t until someone approached him during lunch that he started to understand.
“Woohyun... You’re dating Sunggyu, right?” Woohyun looked up from his lunch to see a girl holding a gift bag in her hands.
“Yes,” he said slowly, raising an eyebrow. Dongwoo and Hoya stopped stealing food from his tray for a moment.
“So... you see him, right?”
“I do. Why?” She held out the gift bag to him and bowed low.
“Could you give this to him? My friends and I listen to him on YouTube all the time and wanted to give him a gift.” Woohyun reached out to take the bag mechanically.
“Uh. Sure. I’ll be sure to give it to him.” She thanked him before hurrying off, blushing and giggling as soon as she made it back to her group of friends.
Over the past few weeks, Sunggyu uploaded various videos of him playing, singing, or playing and singing. He did it to pass the time, and his YouTube account was recording more hits than two kids at a Volkswagon car dealership.
He stared at the gift bag for a moment before putting it away.
“Wow. Sunggyu’s getting popular, isn’t he? He doesn’t even come to school, and all of these people are falling in love with him.” Woohyun frowned at his tray before pushing it away from him. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and took a picture of the bag before sending it to Sunggyu.
To: GyuBear
gift from a fan. hello mr. popular.
He stuffed his phone back into his pocket before sighing and sinking back into his chair. Woohyun didn’t mind that Sunggyu was rising in popularity at the school. It only made him worry that he’d get crazy followers as well.
“What’s up with you? Thought you’d be happy for him or something. I thought you’d be checking out what’s in the bag right now.” Woohyun stared off into the distance.
“No, it’s not that. I’m just... worried.”
“When are you not worried?” Myungsoo asked, placing his pudding onto Sungyeol’s tray. When Sungyeol protested, Myungsoo just opened it for him and stuck his spoon in it, leaving it for him to eat.
Woohyun’s eye twitched for a moment as he watched the two sitting across from him interact. He couldn’t figure them out at all. Maybe they really were just trying to mess with his mind.
“He’s got a point,” Dongwoo said, throwing one of his chips into Hoya’s open mouth. “I think you should just stop worrying so much about him. He can take care of himself.”
Woohyun’s mouth turned into a frown again. It’s not like he didn’t believe that Sunggyu couldn’t take care of himself. He just felt better if he could be there to help him, just in case he needed it.
“You’re like an overprotective mom. Give him some room to breath. Let him fly away from the nest!” Woohyun gave Hoya a weird look as he made a bird with his hands.
“You guys are so weird. Why am I friends with you again?”
“Because without us, you’d probably be dead.”

People greeted him by name whenever he entered the music store now. Jinwoon had been pimping out his YouTube account like no tomorrow, and there were people coming to the store asking about him.
Sunggyu was always occupied with lessons now, and when he wasn’t giving lessons, he was busy chatting with people who recognized him. He would stop and play some demonstrations every now and then. Business was booming for Jinwoon.
“Sunggyu. I’m about to cry. Do you know how amazing you are?” Jinwoon said one day as Sunggyu was getting ready to leave. Sunggyu laughed and limped over to the front counter before leaning on it.
“No, I don’t think I know. Maybe you should tell me.” He laughed as Jinwoon tried to reach over the counter to punch him. Sunggyu’s phone vibrated in his pocket. As he checked his text, Jinwoon leaned over to sneak a peek.
“Huh. Looks like I have fans at school.” Jinwoon blinked a few times before his face fell.
“Well, crap. I forgot you still go to school. Man. What am I gonna do when you go back?” He scratched the back of his head before sighing.
“Hah, you have until February to figure it out.”
“You should just drop out of school and do this full time.” Sunggyu rolled his eyes before turning to leave again.
“Bye, Jinwoon,” he said, waving as he opened up the door to the store.
“Yeah, yeah. You better give me credit in the thank you for your album when you become rich and famous.”

So far, the soccer team was undefeated. Sunggyu and Sungyeol spent their Friday evenings in the bleachers at school, avoiding curious looks from the fangirls whenever someone on the soccer field waved to them.
Woohyun gave Sunggyu a crash course on soccer by forcing him to watch videos while he commented on them. Sunggyu couldn’t help but laugh when Woohyun got sidetracked and yelled at the TV about something he’d seen a million times.
Sunggyu thought it was amazing how Woohyun could watch the same games over and over again and still be so passionate about it. Soccer really was the love of his life.
“So. How are things with you and Woohyun?” Sungyeol asked, handing Sunggyu some nachoes.
“Fine. He’s been acting sort of weird lately, since I uploaded that first video. And just when he was finally to start acting normal after finding out I’d be giving lessons.” The nights were starting to get a little bit chilly now. Sunggyu rubbed his hands together.
“How are you and Myungsoo?” Sunggyu glanced over at Sungyeol, watching his expression go from blank to a slight smile.
“That obvious?”
“Woohyun is the only one that has any doubt in his mind. I wish you guys wouldn’t mess with him so often. He can only take so much before he goes crazy. Or has a stroke.” Sungyeol laughed.
“Serves him right.” Sungyeol let out a breath and looked around the field. “Don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate him or anything. We just... I dunno. He still irks me.”
Myungsoo managed to steal the ball from the other team and send it back the other way to Dongwoo. Everyone cheered loudly in the stands, Sungyeol being the loudest. Myungsoo wiped away some sweat from his forehead before glancing up into the stands. He smiled at Sungyeol’s cheers and turned his attention back to the game.
Sunggyu grinned at Sungyeol. The two of them were learning things about the game slowly. The crowd groaned as the ball was stolen again. Hoya slid for the ball, grimacing when a member of the opposing team stepped on him in the process.
The whole crowd groaned as the referee stopped the game. Dongwoo hurried over to Hoya, who was curled up on the field, cradling his arm. Woohyun ran by Hoya, asking him questions with a worried expression on his face as the medical trainers hurried onto the field to pull him off.
Dongwoo stared after Hoya, shaking his head before running his hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. Woohyun ran over to Dongwoo and patted him on the shoulder. Sunggyu could see his mouth moving, but Dongwoo’s expression remained sullen.
“Is Hoya okay?” Sungyeol asked, standing up and trying to see over the crowd. The commentator announced that Hoya was permanently out of the game after a few minutes, earning boos from the crowd.
The game seemed to take a turn for the worst after that. It was the first game they lost. Sunggyu had never seen Woohyun so frustrated in his life. He looked mad, jabbing his finger in the air, his mouth moving a mile a minute. He ran his hand through his hair before yelling and punching the wall.
--
The ride home was quiet. The medical trainers took Hoya to the emergency room to check on his arm. Luckily, it wasn’t broken. There was a small hairline fracture that required him to wear a cast for a few weeks while it healed.
Sunggyu was afraid to say anything as Woohyun drove them home, much faster than usual. He slammed his door a little bit harder, and his face was a little bit darker.
After Sunggyu opened the door, Woohyun brushed past him gently and headed straight for the shower in his room, throwing his clothes onto the floor. Dongwoo said he would call a car, and he’d be headed home to check on Hoya.
“Woohyun... he takes loses pretty hard, huh?” Sunggyu asked. Dongwoo leaned back into the couch with a slight grin.
“You could say that. It’s almost like the end of the world for him. He just replays the game in his head, thinking about what he could’ve done differently, what could’ve happened, what should’ve happened.” Sunggyu sighed, feeling useless.
“He’ll get over it eventually. Maybe now that he has you, you can distract him from these things.” Dongwoo’s phone rang again. He checked the number before silencing it and standing up.
“I’m headed out. Make sure he doesn’t drown himself in there.”
“Jeeze, all of this over a soccer game?” Sungyeol said from the kitchen. His apple was already half eaten.
“He loves the game,” Myungsoo said, shrugging his shoulders. “You win some, you lose some. The only thing we can do now is learn from our mistakes and move on.” He leaned over and took a big bite out of Sungyeol’s apple.
Sunggyu heard the water turn off. He stood up and limped into his room, opening up the drawer that held Woohyun’s clothes. He threw them into the bathroom because he knew Woohyun was probably too mad to remember to bring them in.
“Thanks,” he heard him say. Then it was back to silence. Sunggyu looked around his room, looking for something to distract Woohyun with. Then it clicked as his eyes settled on his guitar.
--
Woohyun stood in the bathroom, staring at the mirror until it was no longer fogged. He stared at himself, thinking back to the game he just lost. It was his fault. If only he could’ve gotten the ball, if only Hoya hadn’t gotten hurt. He ran his fingers through his wet hair before mouthing some swears.
“Woohyun? Are you done yet? Hurry up and come out here.” Woohyun sighed before looking out to Sunggyu’s bedroom.
“Coming...” He gave himself one last stare before heading out of the bathroom.
Sunggyu was sitting in front of his computer, webcam on and ready to record, his guitar in his lap. He patted the empty chair next to him. Woohyun furrowed his eyebrows at him before sitting down.
“Ready?”
“Ready for what?” Sunggyu just smiled and pressed record.
“Hi everyone! It’s been a few weeks since I made a video. I’ve been a little bit busy lately.” Woohyun looked over at Sunggyu with a worried expression.
“This is Woohyun. Say hi to him guys.” Sunggyu pointed over to Woohyun, who just smiled confusedly and waved towards the webcam.
“I know a lot of you have been asking if I’m single or not. And the answer is no. This song is dedicated to the love of my life, who just happens to be sitting next to me.” Woohyun couldn’t help but grin as he turned to look at Sunggyu. Sunggyu grinned back at him before starting the beginning chords.
I hung up the phone tonight
Something happened for the first time
Deep inside
It was a rush
What a rush
'Cause the possibility
That you would ever feel the same way
About me
It's just too much
Just too much
Woohyun watched Sunggyu sing in awe. Every now and then, he would glance over to Woohyun with a slight smirk on his face.
Why do I keep running from the truth?
All I ever think about is you
You got me hypnotized
So mesmerized
And I've just got to know
Sunggyu’s eyes were on Woohyun now, and only Woohyun. And Woohyun couldn’t help but stare back as Sunggyu sang to him, and only him.
Do you ever think
When you're all alone
All that we could be?
Where this thing could go?
Am I crazy or falling in love?
Is it real or just another crush?
Do you catch a breath
When I look at you?
Are you holding back
Like the way I do?
'Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away
But I know this crush ain't going
Away
Going away
The smile that Woohyun gave him almost made him stop playing on the spot, but he managed to finish out the song with Woohyun bobbing his head to the beat.
“And there you have it guys. My cover of Crush by David Archuleta. Enjoy the rest of your morning, afternoon, evening, and night.” Woohyun leaned over to kiss Sunggyu on the cheek as he reached out to stop the video.
“Thanks,” Woohyun said, leaning his head on Sunggyu’s shoulder as he started the upload.
“You looked like you could use some cheering up. It’s not the end of the world, you know, losing a game. There will be more games, and more people for you to decimate.” Woohyun laughed as Sunggyu set his guitar down on a stand near him.
“Aren’t you worried that you’ll lose subscribers and get hate comments?” Sunggyu shrugged his shoulders.
“Haters gon’ hate.”
--
Sunggyu’s YouTube exploded. He had an overwhelming amount of supporters. There were a number of people that hated on him, but those comments were drowned in a sea of fans.
“See? There are good fans out there,” he told Woohyun as he pointed out some of the comments about him.
“And they think you’re hot too. Lots of girls are despairing about the cute guys being gay.”
“Well, they can despair then,” Woohyun said, capturing Sunggyu’s lips in a kiss.
--
Soccer season ended with only one loss. Woohyun could deal with that. What he couldn’t deal with, were the number of Sunggyu fangirls following him around, asking about Sunggyu. When he was coming back to school. When he was going to upload another video. What song he was going to sing.
Woohyun, for the most part, tried to answer them politely until they started to ask about their personal life. Then he would get curt, and the girls would run away, still giggling. He had to employ help from Dongwoo, Hoya, Myungsoo, and Sungyeol in carrying back gifts for Sunggyu from the girls at school.
They didn’t seem to be deterred by Woohyun’s fangirls that always seemed to think those gifts were for him until he said he would deliver them to Sunggyu. Then they would get indignant that their precious Woohyun was reduced to nothing more than a delivery boy.
Woohyun’s fangirls tried to pick a fight with Sunggyu’s fangirls once. Myungsoo and Sungyeol watched as Sunggyu’s fans stuck together and stood their ground, clearly outnumbering Woohyun’s crazy fangirls. What they said next really made Myungsoo smile.
“What does it matter? We love Woohyun just as much as we love Sunggyu. As long as they’re happy together, then you should just leave them alone! Neither of them needs to know people like you! Especially after what you did to Sunggyu!” Myungsoo recognized the girl to be the one that stood up for their relationship, that one day long ago at the cafe.
“And when he comes back to school, don’t think we’ll let you do anything to him! We’ll be his bodyguards too!” Woohyun walked in on the last part and stopped.
“Woohyun!” she said, turning to him with a determined expression on her face. “You don’t have to worry about them! We’ll make sure they don’t ever hurt you or Sunggyu again!” Woohyun was speechless.
“This isn’t over,” the main girl of Woohyun’s fanclub hissed before turning and leaving with her group.
“I’m sorry we didn’t speak out sooner,” she said, watching the other girl leave.
“There were more of us than we thought,” another one said, looking around.
Woohyun almost cried.
