Office #5, Saturday Afternoon

Sep 29, 2012 10:32

Jono was going to be doing some schedule shuffling this week, yes. Parents Weekend meant that, unless he wanted to make people run halfway across town just to see what his students had been up to, he was going to be holding his Boards office hours here, while trying to finish everything up early, as he had company of his own to get back to ( Read more... )

"Starsmore?" Bantha checked, poking his head into the office. "My kind of last name."

"Funnily enough, it's my kind of last name as well," Jono replied, glancing up at the man and offering him a bit of a wry smile. "Come in, is there anything I can do for you?"

This 'trying to sound professional' thing was easy enough, Jonothon decided.

"You can tell me abut my nephew," Bantha declared, flopping into a chair and fixing a piercing blue-eyed gaze on him. "Cade."

Jonothon took that blue-eyed gaze in stride, offering simply a mild smile in return, and a nod of his head.

"He's one of my teaching aides this semester," he shared, "for all that I don't think he wants to be. Which is well enough, he's exactly the sort of student I was expecting, when I started teaching here."

Because he hadn't been all that different at that age, himself.

"Professor Starsmore?"

The man standing in the doorway was tall, imposing, and had a serious face. He also had a feathered and beaded headband, purple and black armor, and a giant sword.

Really, Jonothon wasn't easily intimidated. Tall, dark, and purple had to do better than scowl and carry a giant sword around to have him do much more than raise an eyebrow at the sight of him in the door.

"That would be me, yes," he confirmed, nodding and gesturing to the chair across the desk from him. "Come in, make yourself comfortable."

It wasn't like Caius was trying to be intimidating right then and there either.

"My thanks." As he came in and made himself comfortable, he took in the mess of the room. He didn't mention it, however. "I am Caius. My understanding is that my charge, Yeul, is one of the students under your care."

Under your care. In your class. Same thing, really!

It wasn't too messy. It was just... somewhat disorganized. By Jono's standards, anyhow.

He'd gotten a rack for the CDs that had at one point just been scattered across his desk. That was clean, okay?

"Ah, Yeul," Jono replied, nodding faintly. 'In his care' was a close enough description to suit him. Being a teacher here meant almost the same as it had meant at Xavier's school. He'd fight for his students here fiercely, if it came to that. "She is in my class, yes. A good student, even if the subject matter seems to be something completely new to her, at times."

The young man who knocked at Jonothon's open door looked quietly unassuming at first glance. And certainly not old enough to be someone's guardian or parent even though he had two grown sons of his own. "Pardon me, is this the office and hours for... " He paused to make certain he was reading the title of the class right from the hastily scrawled notepaper in his hand and then sighing at Mercy with a soft smile, "Living on the Outskirts?" He lifted piercing eyes up to the man behind the desk.

"You've found the right office, yes," Jonothon replied, offering the young man a faint smile and gesturing for him to come in. He was beginning to wonder if perhaps there would be anyone to enter his office who didn't look as though they could attempt to bore through him with a look alone, but, as with the last two, he took it in stride. "And the teacher of the same. I'm Jonothon Starsmore. And I suppose it's safe to assume that you're here to discuss one of my students?"

The man behind the door looked like some fae he'd seen before though he didn't smell like fae to Bran. He stepped in and smiled pleasantly back. "Excellent." The tone was brusque and he strolled over to the desk pulling hands out of pockets and offering one to the instructor. "Professor Starsmore, I am Bran Cornick, here for Mercedes Thompson." He barely kept himself from saying, Mercy was his which felt more natural. She was part of his pack regardless of what she thought. "So yes, your assumption is quite safe."

"Ah, a friend of Mercy's, then," Jonothon nodded as he pulled himself to his feet, meeting Bran in a firm handshake. "With as unwilling as she seems to be to talk of the people where she's from, I had begun to wonder if anybody would be coming for her this weekend. I'm glad to see that my concern was unnecessary."

"Kiss kiss," Karla said brightly, poking her head through the doorway. "This is your brood-o-gram knocking."

[Karla is totes her for Miranda!]

"Do they deliver those? Is that a thing, now?" Jono glanced up at Karla from his desk, eyebrows raised. "All this time, and nobody ever told me that those came door-to-door..."

[Please hold for Mira!]

"We were hiding that from you, Blue Boy," Miranda said, lounging in the seat she'd pulled up in his office. She wasn't planning on spending the entire day here, not by a long shot, but the prospect of Jono with an office was still enough to intrigue her into coming to investigate personally. "And you had to go and tell him, sweetie? Now he'll be wanting them all the time."

Good going, Karla.

"I'm still not telling him how to order one," Karla said, cheerfully making her way into the office. She shot Miranda a quick look, eyebrow arched a bit. 'Blue Boy'? Granted, Jono didn't seem to mind, which probably means she knows him and she's not just some kind of parent here for a conference, but still... "Besides, I'm actually a perk-o-gram in disguise. I'm here to be disgustingly cheerful at you, while I wait for Lucivar to finish up with Warren."

"Hello?" Hank knocked on the door just to make sure his presence was known.

Of course Jono was going to smile up at whoever was in the doorway, and keep an absolutely cool head. After all, that's what he did with every other imposing figure that had come into his office today. And this one wasn't even all that imposing, by comparison.

The face in the doorway still gave Jono a moment's pause, and his polite smile faltered for a moment.

"Dr. Pym."

Somewhere in the back of Jono's head, there was that mantra of 'please don't recognize me as a member of the anti-Initiative New Warriors, Dr. Pym. I have a secret identity but how many blue-faced anti-registration activists are out there giving Stark a headache?' His face, on the other hand, had mostly just settled into a slightly stunned expression. This could be any Pym, from anywhere in the multiverse. Breathing probably wouldn't hurt, right then.

"Can I help you with anything today, Doctor?"

Surprisingly not too many! But, you know, there was that.

Well, there was someone who recognized him right off the bat. He smiled vaguely, attempting to place Starsmore beyond 'One of the X-Men?'

"Victor Mancha is in your class, I believe?"

OhThankGod. Jono exhaled a little, and then gave a little nod of his head.

"One of the students who participates the most, I'd say," he confirmed, trying not to look too relieved that this wasn't some sort of raid on his office while there were three members of the New Warriors here on the office.

... Though, in retrospect, Jono didn't suppose Dr. Pym would be raiding anything out of costume.

"You're... er... related?"

He knew that Victor was a cyborg, if only from a conversation on the beach in a reality that didn't exist any longer. He was trying not to think to hard on how family relations worked, with cyborgs.
