Pacing was ... okay but not brilliant, and as Jess said there were a few FUCK ME THAT IS SOME EXPOSITION THERE moments, a lot of which were blatantly fucking unnecessary as anyone with half a brain could have seen what was being got at already.
I pretty much felt this way. I largely enjoyed it, but there were some bits where I was left going "Seriously, you're going to pause for a detailed lecture with flashback sequences now?"
I am neutral on the matter of Robin. I kind of figured he was going to be Robin, but what I actually wanted was for Bruce to die (like he WANTED) and for Blake to take over as Batman.
I definitely think that would have worked better.
TWO: I LOVED THE FUCKING REVEAL SO MUCH. I LOVED HIM ALREADY, BECAUSE, WELL. DEVIOUS, EXTREMELY VIOLENT IN A VERY CASUAL WAY, AND COMMANDING SACRIFICIAL LOYALTY FROM HIS FOLLOWERS. BUT THE REVEAL MADE MY CHEST EXPLODE WITH FEELINGS, BECAUSE BECAUSE BECAUSE HE WAS HER BIG LOYAL MONSTER-DOG. HE HAS MASTER/MISTRESS-CENTRIC MORALITY. That was the one big of the whole

I liked Bane already because charismatic and destructive people who want chaos generally hit my tingly place, but yeah, that particular bit of Good Doggery really hit me in the mush, and she loved him because hey let's face it, he was the only person who protected her at all until she was strong enough to escape. UGH I LOVE THEM.
It wasn't even the flashbacks! There was just some amazingly unnecessary spelling-out of things. YES THANK YOU, WE HAVE WORKED THAT OUT. YOU HAVE MADE IT VERY CLEAR. WE DON'T NEED YOU CLUNKILY EXPOSIT.
Cosigned. I loved the Talia reveal, even though I was semi-spoiled on it as well. I'm continually annoyed with the way Nolan does female characters... we got her badass backstory but never got to see her show that badassery... but, well, I forgive him because Bane.
I want to be on the villains' side because Batman is such a conservative status quo superhero, but I felt the villain politics in the whole trilogy were kind of muddled.
And I also wanted Blake to be Batman. Because I am really tired of Bruce Wayne's privileged manpain and I think there was supposed to be some character arc there over the trilogy, or at least there should have been, but there wasn't. Not about him really understanding what it's like to be a regular person in Gotham. Blake has his anger but also grew up with a lot more of that understanding. And I found JGL's manpain so much more compelling than Bale's.
It would have presumably spoiled the reveal to have more of her before then, but it would have also have been nice to see more of her being a terrifying badass after the damn reveal. But yeah, her whole relationship with Bane is setting off fireworks in my head so I'm happy about that.

This has been my problem with a lot of comic book movies, I just tire of seeing people who want to maintain the deeply flawed status quo being "heroes". I think Iron Man, possibly, seems to have been the only fella keen on changing things - because he had the most to atone for?
Yeah Bruce's manpain just looked more and more silly in the light of Blake's "basically my life was the same as yours, but without the money and convenience."
Everyone seems to have loved Anne Hathaway, but for me there is simply no other Catwoman than Michelle Pfeiffer. She had an effect on me at a formative age!
As generally speaking in Batverse Batman is usually my least favourite character I was pretty much not that bothered that he wasn't in it a lot, and I was just enjoying seeing him suffer for the majority of the film. That worked for me. Similarly my antipathy towards the American wealthy sort of made me go "and what if it IS terrorism? Maybe that would be better"; which is to say, I bought Selina's line.
As I've said elsewhere, in the last five movies I watched, one was a sports movie and I rooted for the heroine, the other four I either rooted for the villain or for the hero AND the "villain". Comic book movies especially revolve around restoring the status quo, which is not a positive action on the part of the hero if you believe that the status quo is deeply flawed.

"You'll wonder how you ever thought you could live so big and leave so little for the rest of us,"
In the trailer it's made to look less cutting than it actually is. I love Selina and I love her angry socialism and slight edge of Robin Hood.
