I crashed at a friend's house this weekend and they had cats and there was an insanely friendly black and white one who snuggled up with me on the futon and was impeccably polite about not scratching me even when I almost rolled over onto the poor thing and headbutted me and licked my hands... cat tongues are kind of bizarre because they are kind of scratchy but also not at the same time...

That is precisely what I like about their tongues! They're rough-smooth. It's not slimy and horrible like a dog tongue, but not scratchy either.
