Death fascinates me too, but probably mostly because I've seen it. I grew up around death, death is what put food on the table and clothes on my back, so how can I not have a different relation to it than most? I think the process of decay is wildly interesting.

Of course, yes! Would I be very wrong in assuming your approach to it is less fearful because of this?

you're not wrong :) I'm not afraid of death, or dying. Death is the only certainty life has to offer. I wasn't coddled when I was little concerning death either - I see a lot of parents pretending like it doesn't exist around their kids but you know, that wasn't exactly going to work for my parents, so it was always made very plain. One day your body stops working and you don't necessarily have to be old for that to happen, either.

I've gotten some flack before concerning my attitude concerning death, but things are the way they are (people would ask for details concerning my father's work, and when I gave them I would be accused of being insensitive... dude, don't *ask* if you don't want to *know*). When I die I want to be buried, because I really love the idea of my body decaying and being taken in by the dirt. It's the only afterlife I believe in and it's enough for me.

I plan to donate my body to a teaching hospital for anatomy classes if nothing can be used for organ recycling. :)

Have I mentioned before how much respect I have you for doing what you do? :)

Progress on bullying K into accepting hospital treatment is slow but consistent. He's no longer making silly excuses and is now just flat out admitting that he's very scared instead. :(

It's an intriguing subject. Like, I never think of my mum as having died on the 27th when they switched off the life support. I think of her as having died the moment she shut her eyes in the ambulance after she said her last words. To even more of an extent, she died for me when she collapsed, she wasn't my mum after that, not when I found her, nor when she was rushed to hospital, or when I said goodbye, or when she was in the hospital bed and I refused to visit.

SO I can totally understand the preocupation with the mechanics of it. It's fascinating.

In circumstances like your mother's it's like there are two deaths, the physical one and the end of the person you knew. The gap sounds like it could be deeply upsetting. :( I'm sorry.

I dunno, it was just over a day between her collapse and the eventual turning off. By the time she physically died i'd prety much already started to get on with the grieving process.

I've had time to get used to it now though.

Death is a fascinating subject, in both plants and animals.

I know that this isn't exactly relevant, and is fictional, but did you see anything about The Walking Dead on AMC (made from the graphic novels)? Because in one point of the show, like the last episode I think, there's a part where they are reviewing the death of "Test subject 19" and it's like a brain scan of someone who died after being bitten and it shows the synapses in different areas of the brain slowly fading out. It was an interesting image?

I stopped watching that show very quickly out of boredom, I'm afraid.
