Slade has been keeping a low profile since he knows that several of the residents--including their fearless leader--are suspicious of his motives. However, he still knows precious little about the denizens of the compound, so he has crawled out of his dark corner and is now wandering through the courtyard

"Nice mask. Halloween?"

That'd be Albrecht, outside training with his wide bladed, curved, silver sword. He gives the guy a curious look. Guy has an interesting fashion sense.

Slade turns to the man. The blade is the first thing that catches his eye. "Oh, a mask is useful on more than just one day a year," he replies in a humorless voice.

"Perhaps. But it just makes everyone think you've got something to hide. People might not appreciate that around here so much."

[kidcollector]

"Oh? And what incentive to I have to put my faith and trust in a group of people I hardly know?" Not that he'd remove the mask anyway.

And oh look. There's that big red dude that guards Azula's box.

He's got a book. And a sandwich.

And eyes on Slade.

Slade notices the large figure and stops. "One would almost think that you're suspicious of me by the way you're watching me," he says in an emotionless voice.

"Son, when you've been doing of this as long as I have... you would be too."

[kidcollector]

"I suppose I can't blame you. After all, I am rather new around here."

There's a small child watching him from not too far away. She's 13, but certainly looks younger with her thick-rimmed glasses and messy pigtails.

Suspicious and apprehensive would be the two best words to describe the way she's feeling right now.

Slade notices the young girl. He shouldn't be surprised that the mask would cause people to stare.

"Is there something you want, girl?" he calls out to her.

To go home, for one. To see her brother again, to see Calvin, to be back with Mother and Father, and --

"No," she calls back, brows furrowing.

Girl?

[kidcollector]

He walks a bit closer to her. "Then you shouldn't be staring," he states simply. "It's not polite."

[kidcollector]

Slade sighs. Trying to come off as neutral isn't working. "Even if I am, it's hardly like I can accomplish anything here. Taking over the world? Who would want this place?"

[kidcollector]

"I would've never guessed," Slade says with a slight eyeroll. "It's true that I prefer not to take orders from anyone, but I'm hardly going to let that get in the way of my goal of getting away from this place."

[talkback]

"What, you again?"

Cue one Chase, sitting on top of a large frog shaped vehicle.

"You haven't buggered off and gotten yerself vamped yet?"

[kidcollector]

"Obviously not," Slade says, turning to the familiar character.

[talkback]

"Tell ya, what, here' s a fun game."

Chase is in a sour mood indeed.

"Next time it rains, go outside and catch raindrops on yer tongue. Ye'll love it."
