Slade has been keeping a low profile since he knows that several of the residents--including their fearless leader--are suspicious of his motives. However, he still knows precious little about the denizens of the compound, so he has crawled out of his dark corner and is now wandering through the courtyard

Slade sighs. Trying to come off as neutral isn't working. "Even if I am, it's hardly like I can accomplish anything here. Taking over the world? Who would want this place?"

"I would've never guessed," Slade says with a slight eyeroll. "It's true that I prefer not to take orders from anyone, but I'm hardly going to let that get in the way of my goal of getting away from this place."

"Are you threatening me, boy?" Slade figures that the teenage boy is probably an expert at being a high school-age loudmouth. Then again, if the Teen Titans had taught him anything, it was that looks can be deceiving...

"And what gives you the authority to threaten me?" He narrows his eye.

Slade's keen eye notes the flicker. Oh, now that's interesting. So this boy isn't exactly normal. Slade makes a mental note to keep his eye on this one.

"Oh, I'm sure there's more to you than there appears. I certainly have no intention of getting on your bad side."

"I'm terrified," he mutters dryly. "Believe me, I have no intention of messing with any of your friends." Not yet, at least.

"I generally operate... differently where I come from. The costume serves its purpose. And really, with fellows like the red demon, I find it almost humorous how everyone here seems so taken aback by a mere mask."

"Well then, is it always the case around here that people are judged before they even have a chance to prove themselves?" Slade narrows his eye at the boy. "As far as I know, I have yet to do anything good or bad, and yet it's almost as if I've already been convicted for merely wearing a mask."

"Obviously, if I wanted you to know, I wouldn't be wearing the mask. Patience. In time, I may remove the mask once I know more about this place. But until then, my secrets are my own. Surely you wouldn't judge a man for wanting to keep some things to himself."

"Then I imagine you can forgive me for being paranoid enough to wear a mask," he says, his voice somewhat cold.
