So, uh, life has been happening. With the houseguest here, I never really felt able to spend much time online in the evening, hence the radio silence. Let me sum up
( Read more... )
Congratulations! :) I'm trying hard not to impulse shop too much right now, but I couldn't pass off 30% off my favourite (and expensive!) sandals. At least I get several years of good wear out of them.
Happy Birthday to MiniPlu! Hope you guys have a fun celebration (even if you're one family member short for her birthday this time.) And hope Two enjoys his camp week.
I hope you like Blood of Tyrants; I'll be honest -- it's my least favorite of the series, and I intentionally held off on gifting it to you until the last book (which is not perfect, but which I enjoyed considerably more) was out. But even BoT has some nice moments, especially in the middle, so I hope you enjoy it anyway (with that ringing endorsement from me, LOL).
And, heh, I'm planning to do the same thing with Emma with L -- read along to keep her company.
I'm almost to the halfway point by now; they're flying off to Xian to deal with ... opium traders? I remembered seeing something about Lawrence having amnesia when the book came out, but had kind of forgotten about that until I started reading. Does he ever get it fully back? I get that relatively little time has passed but I'm ready for him to stop thinking of dragons as "beasts" and women aviators as needing special treatment, and for everyone else to stop acting like telling Lawrence any of his past 8 years will cause his brain to explode
( ... )
The amnesia thing should be over soon (and yes, it's tedious, and also -- IMO and also the opinion of most readers I know -- pretty pointless).
Baggy is one of the middies, and otherwise unremarkable, I think, or at least I don't remember anything else about him. Churki is the Incan dragon who joined their party in the previous book (though I forget the details myself) and has attached herself to Hammond, and Hammond is a diplomat, not very powerful but quite ambitious, which I think is everything you need to know :) (these books have ended up with quite a large cast, what with all the traipsing around)
They will definitely get to Russia, but my advice is to enjoy the China part while it lasts (that was my favorite section of the book). But I should probably shut up and not prejudice you against the rest of it :P
That is an odd coincidence to have two "Blood" books back to back. It's not THAT common a title word, I feel like -- too gruesome.
O will be very happy about the 3rd book, so thanks in advance!
I swear, one of these weekends, you're actually going to have some downtime!!
I adore both Temeraire and Persuasion ... in fact, I've written a crossover between the two as part of this year's SmallFandomBang that I'm in the process of finishing up now!
