I'm so glad you are enjoying mommyhood. I get ya on the loneliness issue. Not being much of a joiner, I found I didn't really have other mom friends until my kid was in kindergarten. I just throw it out there to remind you that talking to grownups at work isn't such a bad thing and also, if there are "mommy and me" groups out there, you may find one with at least one non alphamom. The Ralph Lauren Moms tend to converge there as well so, heads up.
Sorry about the whole best friend thing! Hopefully she will grow up and out of the cult scene soon. It might take years, so I think it's good that your husband takes her to court for the $$. It's Isabel's college fund we're talking about here.
*HUGS* It does seem harder with RL friends since university - I think people are just more mobile and move farther away. Feels like. I know a friend of mine said she noticed it more when she had her baby (reminds me, I need to stop by her house here...). Is there a Mommy Stroller Walking Group at a nearby mall maybe? There's one at one of our malls that I noticed when I had to go there insanely early in the morning (for me, anyway). Hope the job transition back thing doesn't suck to much, and I'm really glad you are having such a wonderful time with her. *BIG HUGS* on the friend thing...
