Chapter 6 Yuichi yawned, still in a sleepy daze as they entered the mansion. His gloominess came back the moment they have returned and Koki could only sigh for the short term happiness he could give the other man.
“Aren’t you going to see your father first?” Koki asked as he noticed Yuichi heading for the small pad.
“No.” was the simple answer he got.
“Ja, I’ll drop by to tell that we’re back.” When Yuichi nodded, Koki started walking the opposite direction. When Koki reached the Boss’ office, he knocked thrice then entered inside.
The yakuza leader was engrossed on a pile of papers when Koki let himself in. The boss looked up and smiled a little when he saw it was Koki. The older man took off his glasses and massaged his temples as he signaled Koki to come over.
Koki bowed and then started to explain. “Boss, sorry for disturbing you but I came to personally let you know that we’re back. Apparently, Young Master was too tired so he decided to head straight to his pad.”
The older man leaned back on his seat and smiled weakly. “It’s nothing at all. Did Yuichi give you a bunch of hassles while you were staying there? Did he leave a bad impression with your family?”
“No Boss… not at all!” Koki shook his head frantically. “As a matter of fact, my family likes him a lot. There’s no need to get so worried, Boss. Surprisingly, Young Master has a very gentle side.” Koki explained truthfully with a smile and the Boss sighed in relief.
“Good job, Tanaka. I knew I could trust you on this. Frankly speaking, when you asked me about this the other day I was doubtful at first but you were the first person who actually managed to get a grip of Yuichi’s stubbornness. Just don’t get tired of him.”
Koki bowed low in gratitude. “It’s nothing at all, Boss. Young Master is easy to handle when he’s in a good mood and he just needs to go out every once in a while. I think…” He trailed off with the last words, hesitating if he should actually say such thoughts.
The leader nodded. “I’ve thought about this last night… You may take him out again next time. I mean if he gets bored, he might do silly stuff again. So, you two can go out once in a while, maybe he’d stop sneaking out in the future.”
Koki’s face lit up with those statements. “Arigatou!!!” He smiled brightly, “Young Master would be delighted t hear this.”
“No… Yuichi doesn’t have to know about my decision. Understand?”
“But Boss… this might be the start for you two to be in good terms.”
“Just do as I say, okay?”
“Yes, Boss.” Koki just agreed though he didn’t understand it at all.
“Ja, you may leave now.”
Koki bowed one last time and made his way out. He walked towards the pad wondering why their Boss won’t let him tell Yuichi about the good news.

Yuichi was sleeping on the couch when Koki arrived. He knelt down on the floor and looked at Yuichi’s peaceful face. That fringe that fell on his forehead, those puffy cheeks, even that nose that was so cute he wanted to bite it and then his gaze fell onto Yuichi’s lips. They were of color pink and so full. Koki hates it when his Aniki pouts those lips because it makes him wanna lunge on those lips. Slowly, he started to realize what that weird feeling was and Koki could feel his heart swelling.
The bald guy leaned back and sighed heavily. He was the king of all idiots… he thought. Slowly, he stood up and bent down to pick Yuichi up from the couch. He carefully placed one arm beneath the older’s long legs and the other supporting his back. He gently lifted the sleeping form and carried him to his large bed. He tucked the slender man without waking the other during the process and finally made his way back to the living room and collapsed on the couch. Koki smiled as he closed his eyes, breathing in the scent of Yuichi that was still there.

It was already late at night when Yuichi woke up from his supposedly “nap” and was puzzled how he woke in his bed when he fell right asleep on the couch? He shrugged of the possible ways and carried on with what he wanted to do. He walked to the kitchen when his stomach began complaining and headed straight to fridge to find something to eat. He then settled with a slice of cake and grabbed a can of soda. As he was about to return to his room, he caught a glimpse of Koki sleeping on the couch. He quickly walked back to his room, settled his food on the sidetable and grabbed a blanket. The tall lad went back to the living room and carefully placed the fluffy blanket on Koki. Koki’s nose twitched and he curled up like a ball. Yuichi smiled, Koki is cute when he’s asleep… he thought for a second and then he immediately shook his head. He shouldn’t be having such thoughts. He gave the younger man was last look before retreating to his room.
The following morning Koki woke up with a slight surprise of having a blanket wrapped around him. He smiled unconsciously having a feeling of who placed that blanket there.
“Ohayou!!!” Yuichi’s giddy voice greeted him when he sat up. The taller man was already doing his stuff in his kingdom, the kitchen.
“Ohayou! You’re up so early.” Koki answered shyly as he scratched his head then stood up from the couch. “Thanks for this.” He added as he held up the blanket and started folding it.
“Oh, that… yeah.” He stared at Koki, “Anou… yesterday, I, uhm… fell asleep on the couch. Demo… uhmmm…” The next words died in his throat, how could he possibly ask Koki how he got on his bed from the couch.
Meanwhile, Koki just bit his lip getting what Yuichi was trying to point. An awkward silence filled the house and Koki’s thoughts were battling whether he should tell the young master about how he carried him back to his room. Koki slowly opened his mouth to say something…
“Anywaaaay, breakfast is ready. C’mon let’s eat.” Yuichi interrupted him and focused on preparing the table instead.
Koki just stretched his arms out and let out a yawn before following Yuichi to the table.

The two young men were lazily spending the afternoon watching a foreign sci-fi film when a violent knock ruined their mood causing Koki to spill his popcorn on the carpet and a earning a quick whack on the head from Yuichi.
“Tsk… Baka! I’ll clean this, you get the door.” Yuichi huffed and pushed Koki off the couch.
Koki hurried to the door and saw Mori leaning by the doorway, puffing his cigarette. “What?”
“Boss, wants to talk to Waka. NOW.”
“Ooo-kay, I’ll bring him there in while.” Koki brought a finger to rub his nose. “Geez, you should’ve just called me.”
“I’ve been told to personally pick him up, kid.” Mori made another puff as he gave Koki a glance.
“Urgent, huh? Ja, I’ll get him now.”
Mori just nodded and minutes later, Koki drags a cursing Yuichi with him.
“What does he want?” Yuichi’s face can’t be painted at the moment. He clicked his tongue over and over as they made their way to his father’s office. “Mori, I’m asking you, what is this all about?”
“My apologies, Waka. All I know is that he wants to discuss something very important.”
“If it’s this inheritance thing again, please… Isn’t he getting tired over this? I’m so fed up already. You can’t change my mind.” Yuichi insisted and Koki could only pat him by the shoulder.
They enter the office and the found the Boss attending a phone call. He looked up when he saw his son enter. “I’ll send someone for that auction. I have a very important engagement on this Saturday. Ja.” He closed his phone and signaled Yuichi to come closer.
Yuichi walked to his father’s working table and took a seat while Koki and Mori stood next to Haru by the window.
“What now?” Yuichi propped an elbow and rested his head on his palm with a glum expression.
The Boss stood up and dusted off his suit. He picked up and opened his planner then displayed it in front of Yuichi’s face. “Get yourself ready. The presentation of the new generation members of the clans is up this Saturday. You will formally be introduced as the White Tiger’s next leader so dress decently.” His voice was calm but it sounded as a clear order to be strictly followed.
Yuichi was beyond shock. His father would really insist on him taking over and now he’s even going to introduce him to a bunch of other clans. “No way!” He stood up, voice shaking in anger. His eyes were glaring with fury, forehead wrinkled and eyebrows almost meeting together. “Who said you could do that? I haven’t even agreed on taking over! You can’t be deciding for me!!!” Yuichi was heaving breaths already.
“Don’t do anything to embarrass our name Yuichi. I trust you that you’ll behave. Just this once.” The Boss carried on ignoring his son’s protests.
“Who said I’m going?”
“That’s not a request, Yuichi. That’s an order.”
Yuichi looked up to the ceiling as he was on the verge of crying. At that moment, Koki just wanted to pull the other in his arms and tell him that everything will be alright. The young master let out a heavy sigh before looking at his father again.
“You’re the worst. I wish I wasn’t your son.” A tear rolled down his cheek and with that, he stormed out of his father’s office.
All other men left inside heaved out a collective sigh until the Boss gestured Koki to follow his son. Koki quickly took a bow and dashed to follow his friend.
Koki ran up to him in the hallway but didn’t talk to him until they reached the garden. “Yuichi…” he trailed as he reached for the young master’s arm.
“Leave me alone!” Yuichi flinched and ran back to the smaller house. Koki ran after him but Yuichi quickly hid in his room and locked the door behind him.
Koki tried knocking on the door but each time Yuichi’s strained voice would just tell him to go away. Koki cursed himself for being so useless. He leaned his head on Yuichi’s door as he could only listen to Yuichi crying.

It has been three days since that confrontation. Koki was badly affected because Yuichi stopped talking to him ever since. The young master would just pass by him in the house as if he wasn’t there.
“Anou… Yuichi…” Koki attempted a conversation as they were quietly eating dinner.
“Sorry, Koki. I’m not mad at you. I just don’t feel like talking, moving, breathing even…”
“Hey, don’t say that!” They were both surprised when Koki raised his voice.
“Don’t worry, I have no plans of running away.” Yuichi decided to end the conversation as he stood up and pushed away his unfinished plate.
As the bald man looked at Yuichi’s retreating form Koki decided he should do something… not as his bodyguard but as a friend.

Koki gathered all his courage before knocking on the door. Haru opened the door for him and he quickly bowed.
“Tanaka, what brought you here?” the Boss took off his glasses and looked up at Koki.
“There is something I want to discuss, Boss.” Koki glanced at Haru hesitantly, “In private if you may.”
The Boss nodded and Haru immediately excuse himself but that didn’t reduce the tension that Koki was feeling.
“Boss, after what happened last time… Young Master… he… He hasn’t been eating properly, not talking at all and he’d always lock up inside his room. It’s really bothering me. I know it’s wrong to be meddling with your family problems, but…” Koki exhaled rather loudly. “I can’t help but feel bad about Young Master. I thought when you let him stay with me last week, it would be the start that you’d be a little more loose with him. You see, Boss… Young Master is really happy if he can have a little more freedom. I am not saying that you let him do what he wants. Just… please… He is so pressured. I want the smiling Young Master better.” Koki bowed low, “I’m sorry for the intrusion.”
The Boss just smiled in return, patting Koki by the shoulder. “I understand your point, kid. And I am very thankful that you have such concern for my son. If I tell you the reason why I keep forcing Yuichi, could I trust you that you would not speak of it when you step out here?”
Koki nodded. “Yes, Boss. I promise.”
“A year ago, I was diagnosed with a heart disease. One day I’m feeling well the next day I’m not. That day you saved me, I had a heart attack. I have no assurance that I would live longer. That’s why I want my son to take over as soon as possible. It’s for everyone’s good. I want to assure his future and this clan’s as well. I want to put everything into place just in case anything might happen to me.”
“Boss…” Koki was dumbfounded, he didn’t expect this from the older man. “I’m sorry…”
“Don’t be. Just take good care of my son. He has a good friend in you.”
“Does anyone else know about this?”
The Boss smiled and nodded. “I’ve entrusted Haru to teach Yuichi when that day comes. Yuichi barely knows anything with these kinds of business. As for you, could I entrust you that you’d give all your support to him?”
Koki smiled sincerely, “Definitely Boss! You wouldn’t have to worry about that…”
Once again he tapped Koki by the shoulder then took a pile of folders from his desk. “About Yuichi’s tantrums, He’ll be okay. Don’t worry. For the meantime, why don’t you distract yourself with these?” he handed the files to Koki.
“Boss?” Koki asked as he took the files.
“I want you to study them. Those are profiles of the possible sellers in an upcoming auction that we will be participating. Some are quite suspicious and I want to make sure if it’s safe to include them. The clan’s reputation is at stake here. I want you take a look and tell me what you think.”
“Me?”
“Yes, you. Now focus on that for the meantime. Come back here before Saturday.”
“Hai.” Koki nodded in determination.

Meanwhile, Yuichi decided to have a major clean up of his walk-in closet to relieve his stress. As he rummaged his stuff, he found some clothes that he wore ages ago. He huffed when he realized that his closet also served as a storage room for his old belongings.
However, a certain box caught his eye. He reached for it on the top shelf and dusted it off. He was surprised to find an intricately designed kimono inside it. For a moment he wondered whom that kimono belonged to until he saw a small photo frame in the same box. He looked at it and suddenly tears came gushing as he saw that it was his mother, in that very kimono standing right beside his father inside his nursery room. Yuichi thought that the picture must have been taken when his mom was still in the early stage of pregnancy with him and they were so excited they had the room done already.
He sat and sulked at the corner, hugging his mother’s clothing. Things might not be like this if you were here. Yuichi thought to himself. And then like a flash of lightning, something crossed his mind. He stood up and took the kimono with him. I know you’d let me do what I truly want, Mother… Forgive me, but I can’t let Father dictate my life…
