Errrmmm...hello world

Hello folks. It's been a while since I've been on here and I thought I'd stop by and say hello.

Real Life has been mental. Well, my job has. I've been working on a project on my own. The other, equivalent project, has 4 people doing the role I was supposed to be doing. While I've been telling my boss I can't do everything (and I haven't tried to do ( Read more... )

Ok, those look genuinely Chinese... though I'm more fond of Cantonese than Beijing food.

I hadn't thought you were away at all, until I realised that's cos I've been seeing you on twitter, not LJ. *facepalm*

The Kylie Kwong book covers several regions of China and has some really excellent recipes in it. Think I'll be making the lamb skewers I had in Xi'an when I get the BBQ fired up in summer.

Yeah, it's easy to not post here when there's twitter. I don't put the 'status updates' on LJ like I used to. They just go straight on twitter.

Kylie Kwong is definitely one of the better ones out there and easy to follow as well. She's got a cooking show that used to air on SBS over here as well. I think she's based in Sydney or somewhere around there. Definitely Aussie though.

Just that lately, I hardly cook as it is. When I do cook though, I just tend to cook what I like and experiment. BTW, you can totally have pak choi with mushrooms together. 3 different mushrooms even. YUMMY! I call it 3 Shrooms Pak Choi. Or substitute Pak Choi with Broccoli. Use the same oyster sauce for the Broccoli for this dish and of course, you have to have a bit of garlic that you saute first before tossing everything in. ;)

Yeah, it's easy to not post here when there's twitter.

Tell me about it. The reason I post now is cos my phone's been acting up and I can't post to twitter by phone anymore. :( It's a conspiracy to make me get a smartphone, I swear it is.

The book is brilliant. There's a fair bit of 'waffle' if you just want straight recipes but I think some of it's quite interesting. Plus, as the sections are regional there's a spread of dishes. The author has a cookery show that I think I've watched on UK tv (she's Aussie) that might be worth checking out.

Lovely insects! I'm particularly fond of dragonflies but that bee it stunning as well. :)

And -- you made me hungry. Good thing I have left-over Chinese food in the fridge.

Thanks for the compliments about insects. I've not made any more yet but I'll post more when I do. I'm still learning so hopefully they'll get better.
