[ He probably should know when it's best to just leave well enough alone, but part and parcel of being America is that he never really has been any good at letting sleeping dogs lie. This proves to be especially true whenever the meme stirs tensions between himself and England in such a way that it almost seems intentional, like they're purposely being baited into acknowledging that aspect of their individual existences - the all-too-awkward subject of them. It's hard for America to simply ignore it all the time, probably because he already does think about it often all of his own accord. Time spent with England isn't always horrible; they don't always fight to the degree that their encounters end messily in bruised egos and bloody noses, and America wouldn't say truthfully that he hates the older Nation either. He gets that some may believe otherwise, but that's fine to him. There's no need in his mind to clarify things when he thinks it should be obvious that relations between their countries have improved a lot over the years. No,

[ He really doesn't know how to say what he wants to correctly. He wants to ask if he can trust England, but how to say that without... making it seem like he's really given it thought? Just because he has doesn't mean he wants the older Nation to know that. ]

[ That seems to be enough for America though and he nods back, smiling awkwardly at England for a moment before he looks away and clears his throat anxiously. ]

[ America can't help but wrinkle his nose at the mention of tea, years and years of habit proving hard to break after all. Nonetheless, he figures it can't hurt to accept this bit of graciousness from England, though it's sorely tempting to revert them to their usual routine of exchanging barbs for the simple comfort of being allowed to cling to what's more familiar nowadays. The younger Nation shrugs nonchalantly. ]

Yeah, sure, I guess. You probably don't have coffee, do you?

[ This feels almost all too familiar, England setting him before a tea set, and America has to bite the inside of his cheek before he reminds the Island Nation of the reason why he doesn't drink tea anymore. There's no need to stir up the past when the present already has so many issues. He still sticks out his tongue at England, in a grand show of maturity, for the comment about iced tea. ]

[ In fact, it's such an uncharacteristic act from England that America can't help laughing, nor stop himself from grinning to himself about it afterward even. And it's strange, really, because rarely does he find reasons to laugh in England's presence, it seems, out of pure mirth and amusement, let alone because he finds something the older Nation has done endearing. America takes note of this, though it's dominantly an involuntary observation than merely pops into his head unbidden. ]

[ Despite that he often partakes in the complaining about England's cooking with the rest of the Nations, America doesn't actually find most of it completely inedible like the others. Some things he even likes, as England reminded him when he offered the tea. ]
