AND...

I feel the need to add two things that really deserve their own post.

1) DADT REPEALED. FINALLY. I jumped for joy when I heard the news on the radio. (And then I hit my head because I was in the car) It doesn't take away my disappointment about the tax deal or the lack of passing START, but it's nice to get something right ( Read more... )

Looking at tsn.ca I notice that about 80 of the Oz-Man's wins came with the NY Islanders and St. Louis Blues, two teams that haven't had anywhere near the talent level the Red Wings have had for the past 15 years or so. Getting 30 wins a year with each of those crews says something, I think. Question for you: Does Osgood go to the Hall, and if so, does he go in on his first year of eligibility? I think he'll get the Hall but I'm not sure he'll be in on his first year.

On DADT I'm honestly shocked at how long it took to get that knocked down. You'd think that in the perma-war situation the US is in that tossing qualified, willing to serve troops out because of their sexual orientation would have been seen as counter productive years ago.

Second question(s): Do you think START will get passed, and just how bad do you think the tax deal will be? I don't really know if it addresses anything with the out of control debt and deficit.

Yup. I completely agree. Up until last year, he's never had a losing season. Say what you want about the Wings skill level, but they're also a touchy team, and very good goaltenders - Curtis Joseph anyone? - couldn't take them where they wanted to go. Ozzie did twice 10 years apart and to the 7th game of the SCF another year. Hardly minor accomplishments. I'd like to think he'd get in, but I'm not entirely sure. Depends on where the Wings go this year and what role he plays in that.

You'd think, yes, but logic has no place here.

Re: START. I really hope it will be but if the most recent push to get it through doesn't happen, I doubt it will, and that will be a problem.

The tax deal...I saw someone describe it as the US finally admitting that money was fake. Which is pretty accurate. There's nothing that deals with the debt, with the deficit, it's just more tax cuts/stimulus spending with no way to pay for it. It's horrific. I'm really upset by it.
