Here's what I don't get.

Why is bread sold in such big loaves?  I like bread.  I like toast and I like sandwiches.  But I never, ever eat more than half a loaf of bread before it gets moldy.

Can't the nice bread makers just sell me half a loaf?  Or...I don't know.  There should be some way around this that I'm not seeing.  Anyone?

bread, cooking

Everyone else has put forth the solutions I would give.

...well, you could always have an 11 year old live in the same house, and she'll just randomly eat all your bread for you.

But I don't think that's a good solution for you.

Um, it's a conspiracy! That's it! It's like before they standardized the number of hotdogs and hotdog buns.

Supposedly the fridge makes bread stale faster than the freezer, so if you like your bread room temp, I'd freeze half. But if you prefer toasted bread, keep it in the fridge and toast it before eating. You don't notice the staleness that way. I put bread in the fridge immediately and it keeps for months.

Really? Mind you I've only tried it on Vogels which is a very very moist bread which gets fluffy if you leave it out a couple of days.
I suspect it speeds up drying as fridges do circulate the air, so it would be interesting to see if it still does that if well wrapped in the bag.

Yes, it doesn't make sense but a lot of bakers confirm it. CI tested it too:

Ooooh, if CI checked it out, I'll totally believe that. Though really, my issue is rarely with staleness and more with mold. But I think freezing it might end up the way to go anyhow.

Heee, perfect idea! Above in the threads, I was linked to mini loaf pans which I'll totally check out as soon as I have spare cash. Cause really, that would be the best.
