Zach had spent most of the day putting up secondary wards around the merchant areas at the outdoor market. The day had gone quickly and even though the work was slow going, it kept him busy and he felt like he was accomplishing something. The money wasn't bad either and it seemed merchants were willing to pay top dollar for security. Plus, the residual contracts to reinforce his charmwork would keep he, Tracey and Luna well-supported while they were here. It had ended up being a larger job than he thought and he was normally at the market from the early morning until mid-afternoon Monday through Friday which meant that Tracey and Luna were home alone for the most part although one or the other came with him sometimes and every day he came home, he was glad to see that no one had been maimed while he was gone ( ... )

Zach was still going over the implications of what had occurred. His mind was in overdrive as he tried to calculate how much money he needed to make in order to support them. He didn't expect either Tracey or Luna to work unless they wanted and although he knew the notion was outdated, he thought that the burden of support was upon him, given it had been his choice to have the two of them with him ( ... )

When he spoke, Luna started to beam. This was the kind of enthusiasm she wanted to hear. She wanted him to want this child as she did, and if a girl would make him happy, then that's what she would hope for too, though she still liked the idea of a boy. "I think our child would be beautiful no matter what gender. And we'll love it no matter what."

She flushed a little when he called her beautiful. Luna still wasn't used to it. Strange, odd, loony: those were the adjectives usually applied to her, but whenever Zach said it, she knew it was true, and she was starting to really believe it.

When he stood, Luna nodded and settled herself more comfortably, "Maybe later, I'm going to sleep for now." Her smile was soft as she watched him. "I love you too."

Tracey stood in the kitchen, idle for the most part as the roast was still in the oven and she'd taken the vegetables off the heat. Instead, she'd raided the cabinets for whatever alcohol she could find, coming up with a bottle of scotch, vodka, and strong fire whiskey. She set these on the counter besides some small glasses, looking for all the world like the experienced bartender she was.

Then she leaned against the bar, taking deep breaths and forcing herself to stay calm. When he came out of the room, she looked up at him, managing a wry smile before gesturing to the bottles. "Care to pick your poison, love?"

Zach's concern with Luna and the baby seemed to be somewhat alleviated when he left the bedroom and walked toward Tracey. He was still worried about finding some place to live for them and finances but somehow being with Luna earlier and finding Tracey with the bottles of liquor laid out before her, it let him feel as if everything would be alright ( ... )

Tracey watched him walk over to her, concerned by the weight she could see in his shoulders. Tracey knew that everything would change with this moment, but seeing it was another thing entirely. Tracey wished that she could take that weight on her shoulders, harder than she had ever wished for anything. She'd never wanted to help someone before, always concerned with herself, but this was different. She wanted to help Zach. She wanted to see him smile ( ... )

Zach was surprised by Tracey's acceptance and calmness, even more astonished by her word and her actions. "I'm worried about you." His hands moved slowly down her sides, grazing along with curve of her hips. Zach's sincerity filled his brown orbs because he didn't want to lose Tracey. He shared with her a lopsided grin before he said, "I'm fine other than the fact that I'm going to need to find more work and maybe even a bigger place ( ... )

"I'll be fine, Zach." Her hand rose to cup his cheek, her thumb running along the line of his cheek. "I just." She paused, searching for the words. "I want you to be able to depend on me for once, Zach." She smiled a little at his words, leaning forward and placing her forehead against his. "I'll find work too. Perhaps the Beedle bar needs a barmaid." She wanted to help him. He believed in this so much, the three of them. She wanted to see that it could be believed in. "I'm bored at home anyway."

Tracey sighed into the kiss, loving that every touch set her heart racing. "I love you too." Tracey never thought that she would ever say those words and mean it, but with him, she really did. She whimpered into the next kiss as she responded with what ever she had left. "I love you, Zach."

When he pulled away, Tracey found herself breathless. She leaned forward, laying her head on his shoulder and looking up at him. She gasped when his hands slid lower and laughed at the look in his eyes. "Always, love. Always."
