I'm with your other respondents thus far. You did the right thing. I'm inclined to suggest you pay your local police a visit to let them know what happened (and show them the on-phone pictures but don't yet give them copies) in case any of the vandals in question or the alleged parent there try to do anything to you or the store. "I am, they did, they said, here's evidence" as a precaution more than anything else.
I don't think you need to worry. It sounds like the kids and the mom may not normally be this stupid, but, having been caught out, didn't know how to back down, and ended up defending their stupidity as though they were proud of it. The mom in particular seems to be under the impression that as long as she claims to have the moral high ground, she must be in the right: indignation as substitute for doing the right thing. Being in a blazing rage is more comfortable (for many of us, anyway) than being embarrassed or scared (of her kids getting into deserved trouble

I'm not remotely surprised that either the kids tried to pretend what they did was okay, or that their mother did. Cognitive dissonance, and they didn't know how to recover gracefully. If mum had found out without your help, she'd have been heaping into the kids I'm sure.
