I know how to spend my own money, really D: I also know how to SAVE my own money. I know when I can afford something and when I can't, which is why over the past... four years I've done absolutely piss-all with my money except go once to Melbourne (MMM EXOTIC DESTINATIONS) and buy a new computer for a whole $450. I bloody know what I'm doing with ( Read more... )

Your money, you spend it. Ignore the family teasing/tripping you.

Nu~ your bitching is totally legit. Mine don't think I can handle money (wtf) and yours don't think you can handle travel arrangements. We can bitch about parents together! *clings~*

Oh no, they don't think I can handle my money either. They've been telling me lately that I need to think about saving up for Europe since it's, well, Europe. 8( [clings back]

I can buy the plane tickets now and have it make barely a dent in my bank account. It'll have barely any impact by the time September rolls around. Arg~

[huggggs] I'm sorry your parents are suddenly being bitchy about everything. In truth, they're probably just worried about money now because of the financial crises. Last year it hadn't really hit home yet. But it's becoming increasingly obvious that it's not just going to go away in a couple of months, and people's super/retirement funds and shares are going down the drain. I know my parents have gotten super tetchy with money in the last couple of months too. But keep at it, hon. Maybe when you've calmed down, in a couple of days time, bring up with them all the points you've outlined here in a matter-of-fact way (and it doesn't hurt to outline what a good daughter you are too, compared to many-- you have a job, you pass uni, you don't smoke, do drugs, or drink yourself stupid, you aren't pregnant, you get on FAIRLY well with your parents compared to most lolololo me and my trying to move out as soon as possible for example, you ARE fiscally responsible because you DON'T go on huge shopping sprees every other month or make impulse ( ... )

I actually went up to Mum this morning with my argument all planned, and as soon as I mentioned that the plane tickets are only $120 return for those dates, she instantly perked up XD She was expecting $600 minimum. So I've got one on-side, and she says she's behind me if Dad raises any hackles, so wai. Haven't actually told Dad yet. Might go do that now...
