i miss my icons :(

10 days till Supernatural!!!

Have another review of Doctor Who - The Power Of Three.

[spoilers naturally, also lots of words]
First I gotta say that I really dislike all the time-jumps this season. IMO everything feels disjointed and it's really really hard for me to connect, attach or give a shit about anything that's going on. The jumps are so abrupt and we are told (and in some cases

I miss my icons too. I'll probably pay for another paid account just to get them back. :S

I actually quite enjoyed this week's ep. I've been rather blah on the eps so far but this one worked quite well I thought.

I have to wait for my paycheck but yeah, I plan on renewing my paid account as well.

If I'm grading by the curve of this season then yeah, this was an enjoyable episode. I liked a lot about it. It's just that as a whole everything feels disconnected. IDK if that makes sense.

At least it's not season 6. XD

Yeah this season doesn't feel like a season but, tbh, I've kinda been feeling that since they stopped really doing the regular season thing back with 10 so.... idk I find it kind of hard to commit to the show these days.

I'm waiting to get paid too.

I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND TIME. Amy said in this episode that she thinks they've spent 10 years with the Doctor, but it hasn't been 10 years for Earth, but then a while ago Rory said he was 31...? Is that supposed to tie into the backwards time theory or am I just fucking confused? If that time thing is actually happening, I'm going to be pissed because apparently Moffat only knows how to do things non-chronologically and have the Doctor imprint upon women when they're young and then influence their life. NHFT ( ... )

LOL yeah, she says it's been ten years for her and Rory but not for Earth OR FOR THE DOCTOR. So... wtf? How? I don't understand that at all.

and have the Doctor imprint upon women when they're young and then influence their life.

seems like the imprinting goes two-ways since Amy is seared on his ~~soul.

And that totally bothered me too, that people would just leave them laying around and use them for paperweights and stuff...? Are you kidding? No way.

Hahahaha, I was just thinking about that and my first move would be to freak out and take all of those cubes OUT OF MY HOUSE and probably bury them deep behind my backyard or something. everyone else can ~~experiment and ~~monitor thankyouverymuch. I've seen enough movies to know an invasion when I see one. Even if it is a slow one.

Why did those creepy dudes even have those creepy faces? Was there a point/reason? It feels so random.

probably my favorite episode of the season so far but "favorite" is far too strong a word, lol. LMAO yes, we are definitely grading on a curve of ( ... )

Uuuuuuuuuugh, ~seared on his soul~ give me a break. I know I'm prejudiced against the Ponds, but just stop. So glad they're finally leaving next week.

hahahahahaha, my first thought was to bury them in my backyard too!!! And they have to know about the daleks and the cybermen and stuff, right? So like... how could the entire planet be that stupid? I don't get it.

THERE WAS NO REASON. Except to capture Brian and thus lure in Rory, so that he could be there when the Doctor and Amy showed up. But unless they return to these people later this season, that is apparently going to go unexplained. And even if they DO come back to it later, it's still shitty writing to have people being kidnapped and then never explain why it happened...

Yeah, did Moffat even do a single Earth episode in seasons 5 or 6? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I gotta say though, I always believed Ten shaped himself on Rose and her character and all that so I guess I can believe that Eleven would always be prejudiced towards the Ponds to a point. And I wouldn't mind Amy imprinting on him but the vice-versa thing is creepy, especially since she was a child when it happened.

SEE THAT WAS MY QUESTION! Do these people know about the daleks and the cybermen??? IDK, feels like Moffat left it open for all kinds of changes with Big Bang. :|

And even if they DO come back to it later, it's still shitty writing to have people being kidnapped and then never explain why it happened...

Shitty writing is exactly what it is yeah.

And LOL basically letting all those people there die without even trying to save them or even mentioning them later - gotta love how lately this show gives no fucks about killing people/aliens/living creatures.

TIME JUMPS ARE THE WORST. But I guess that's the evil of being a part time companion? It feels so much like cheating, though- we don't see characters develop, but rather, just at different points in their life and we're supposed to just take that as development? BS.

YES IT DID FEEL VERY RTD LIKE DID IT NOT? I'm not really sure why it did, beyond the whole Earth factor, though.

How cool would it have been if Pond Life was more like this episode instead of what it was?

LOL how does Eleven tell Brian his son's died more times than anyone cares to count?

Amy's parents aren't important they got eaten by a crack again.

I bet that we'll never see the cubes mentioned again also invasion was a bad word to use how is that an accurate description of pest controlI'm going with the idea that ATCM happened in PoT, or rather, in the middle of PoT, and that Dinosaurs/Asylum still happen prior to PoT- only that ATCM was a bit of an interlude for them to convey time passing? IDK, I'm not a fan of the time backwards thing because killing Solomon ( ... )

They are doing a lot of telling and not nearly enough showing tbh.

It's sorta combined Earth, invasion, news clips/cameos and UNIT being there.

Yesssss, Pond Life should've been exactly like this. Such a wasted opportunity.

LOLLL it really was pest control! Didn't think of it that way. XD Or total annihalition... for ~reasons.

IDK, I'm not a fan of the time backwards thing because killing Solomon after the whole talk with Amy and Jex is just like slapping the whole point of the episode in the face.

What is continuity? How does it work??????? XD

BWAHAHAHAHA Room of requirement! Awesome.

I KNOW RIGHT??? LIKE NO ONE GAVE TWO SHITS ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE! And instead of getting them to safety as well as Rory's dad, the Ponds rather spend their time listening to the Doctor banter with the bad guy. W/E so much for ~this is not how we roll~.

Yeah. IDK, I get the feeling that's how Moffat sees 'character development'- that you don't need to be shown as much as told.

CONTINUITY IS THAT THING WHERE WE GO FROM A->B AND IT GOES LIKE CAUSE TO EFFECT BUT OH WAIT MOFFAT LIKES TO THROW HIS HANDS UP AND GO TIMEY WHIMEY AND EXPECT US TO JUST TAKE TIME LOOPS LIKE THEY'RE THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING?

Phone of Requirement XD Or maybe we could just call the whole show right now the Show of Requirement, since everything seems to be governed by the requirements of each individual episode.

LIKE, IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN 5 SECONDS FOR RORY TO GO SEE OH HEY THEY'RE ALL DEAD BUT INSTEAD IT JUST GOES TO DRAMATIC EXPLOSION AND THAT WOULD HAVE FIXED EVERYTHING (but why there would be an explosion like that in another dimension? that doesn't make sense because physics wouldn't work like that if you're isolated in one dimension, esp one that is separate from time and space but w/e) SO I GUESS THEY ONLY ROLL LIKE THAT WHEN...IDK WHEN. ONCE A SEASON, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

anna_sg1 September 26 2012, 22:32:27 UTC
why there would be an explosion like that in another dimension?

As far as I understood it, only the doorway from the elevator to the ship was ~another dimension~ or whatever. The actual ship was in space near Earth. TBH I would love it if that was my biggest gripe with this episode and not the multiple counts of manslaughter. XD

At this point, there is no 'logic' associated with Doctor Who, so I don't try and make it make sense. LIke, while the Doctor has the whole 'I don't go and reorganize' time thing, at the same time, he's not capable of jumping in the TARDIS and reworking a few other things so future things in the future don't happen like killing off Ben Browder? It's just ( ... )

Well, I always assign it the logic in the context of the show. But yeah, past season basically said goodbye to all of that. I'm not even mad anymore it's just ridiculous, especially these last four episodes that are all over the place. :D :D

I agree on all the positive aspects of POT you mentioned but IDK... it feels too little too late, I guess. It would've been nice if some of these 'real life' moments/events/people were mentioned or shown a bit in earlier seasons (like Rory's dad talking about the dangerous aspects of travelling with the Doctor, for example). Which is what I thought at least Pond Life would actually be about.

I'm quite the opposite - so beyond ready for them to leave. I mean, I'll miss their faces and all, but give me Clara now, please!

LOLLL, Doctor really really doesn't like it. :D :D

Heh this post reminds me that I need to renew my icon add-on! It's all out of synch with the paid account b/c of the added time from downtime...

All the news bits and the famous cameos really reminded me of RTD era.

I agree, I think it's the main reason why I enjoyed this week's epp so much more than usual--because it was similar to the good old days! ;) Army of Ghosts in particular...I loved the cheesy Taj Mahal manip on the news, etc...and the hints about the companion possibly dying! I wish they had stretched this out into a two-parter instead of bringing back the stupid angels...

Agreed on other counts too, like why nobody noticed that girl just sitting there, and the way it was resolved....what even happened? I looked away for like a second and suddenly everything was resolved, so I missed it...

And gah, still need to catch up on the first two DA epps.

I'm waiting for my paycheck. No money to spare for LJ right now.

Agreed. So many things were jammed into this episode it could've been a storyarc of the last four episodes tbh.

And it wasn't even really resolved. Like, those Shakri people are still out there, the Doctor never really defeated any of them, just spoiled their one plan. Plus, we never got the why. why do these guys even want to destroy humanity?
