Chapter Twelve

Leeteuk bit his lip in anticipation as he surveyed himself in the mirror, occasionally glancing at the door where he had kept Kangin waiting behind for over two hours. Even though he donned light grey dress with a brown belt that clung to his surprisingly slim figure, white thick heels to prevent himself from falling over and light make-up on his face to make his disguise really sell, what worried Leeteuk the most was his hair. He played at the soft auburn tendrils that were curled and waved slightly so that it would fall past his shoulders and wondered whether or not his wig would ever fall off.

‘I’ll have to make sure that no one touches my hair,’ thought Leeteuk to himself as he placed a thick blue and white headband upon his wig, brushing down his makeshift fringe gently with his fingers.

Looking at himself one more time in the mirror, Leeteuk concluded that he must be insane to be doing what he was about to do and ignored the silver jewellery that sparkled from the dresser. He remembered Heechul telling him that he must wear jewellery because it would look suspicious for a female not to have any, but brushed it off, thinking that it would be too over the top for his disguise.

Kangin waited with baited breath as he stood in the foyer, occasionally fidgeting in his black dress pants and white blouse. He had carried their luggage to the car over an hour ago and so he preoccupied himself by cleaning some places in the house. Too bad Leeteuk had cleaned the house prior to getting dressed.

“Hyung, are you done yet?” called out Kangin, turning around to face the stairs that led to the bedroom. “We have to be at my parent’s house for lunch! We’re going to be…”

Kangin never finished his sentence as Leeteuk revealed himself at the top of the stairs, the boy playing with his wig, fixing it now and then. Leeteuk smiled meekly as he slowly descended down the stairs, eyes not leaving Kangin’s own brown eyes. Unfortunately, he hadn’t quite gotten used to wearing heels and missed a step, his ankle jutting out to the side as his legs gave out under him, resulting in Leeteuk falling down and his hand latching onto the railing of the stairs.

“Leeteuk!” Kangin rushed forward and crouched before the wincing boy.

“Ouch,” muttered Leeteuk. “How can anyone wear these for a long time is beyond me.”

“You’ll get used to it.” Kangin smiled cheekily as he held the ankle in his hands, allowing for Leeteuk to stretch his legs. “You know, you look really pretty.”

“That doesn’t make me feel any better, you know.” He took his ankle back and bent his knees for the difficult task of standing up. “That means I look better off as a female.”

Kangin frowned as he helped the boy to his feet. “No, that’s not what I meant. I’d rather you be yourself but you have got to admit, you look so gorgeous at this moment.” He leant in until their faces were mere millimetres apart, their skin tingling from one another’s breath. “So beautiful…” Kangin trailed off as he captured Leeteuk’s lips for a searing hot kiss, his body pressed against the others and his hands running up and down Leeteuk’s arms, enjoying the soft feel of the smooth skin.

Leeteuk couldn’t help but flutter his eyes shut as he melted into the kiss, enjoying every single moment of it, even if it went against all his morals. He liked the way Kangin’s rough hands ran along his arms, shivering slightly as he felt Kangin’s member press up against his own.

“K-Kangin-ah,” mumbled Leeteuk between kisses. “We need to…get to…your parents place soon.”

With one last kiss, Kangin broke the contact and sighed. “I suppose you’re right.” He then threw a wink at Leeteuk, making the boy in question blush and look down at the ground to hide the redness of his cheeks. Just as he tried to walk down the stairs again, Kangin took Leeteuk by the waist and carried him down the flight of stairs, ignoring all of Leeteuk’s protests.

“Yah! I can walk by myself!” Leeteuk thumped and kicked about in hopes of being put down.

“I don’t want you to fall down the stairs and fall face first.” Kangin stopped at the bottom of the stairs and put down the overly light boy. “I don’t want another scratch upon you.”

Leeteuk looked at Kangin on shock, not quite expecting Kangin to be so sincere about his safety. He shrugged it off, knowing that Kangin knew nothing of his past, and was about to make his way to the car when he was held back by a strong grip. “Kangin?”

Pulling out a small velvet pouch, Kangin took a silver chain from the pouch and slipped it onto Leeteuk’s delicate wrist, the chain and silver plaque glimmering in the light. “I didn’t know what to engrave on it so when you decide, just tell me and I’ll get it engraved, yeah?”

Upon further inspection, Leeteuk noticed that there were two wing engravings near the edges, lined with small diamonds, leaving plenty of space for a message to be engraved. “Kangin, you didn’t have to spend money, much less this much, on me.”

“I don’t think you’ve ever been treated rightly and gotten anything so I hope that this will make up for all the past years.”

Leeteuk was shocked once again. “You don’t know anything about my past…”

“No, I don’t,” said Kangin, letting go of the hand. “But I can tell that you were mistreated in the past, your dongsaengs as well. What ever happened in the past is in the past. I want to make up all the emptiness you must be feeling now.”

Ignoring Leeteuk’s suspicious looks and silence, Kangin once again took Leeteuk’s hand and led him to the car to start their journey to the Kim estate.  By the time they got to the big white fancy house, Leeteuk was no longer suspicious of Kangin’s words and actions but was more nervous on whether or not his parents would like him.

Would they like him? Would they believe his disguise? Would they give their blessings for the relationship? Would they be nice to him? These were the questions floating about Leeteuk’s mind with the reasoning of ‘Kangin and I aren’t a real couple’ escaping his line of thought.

When the pair started to walk up the steps leading to the front door, Kangin took Leeteuk’s hand in an attempt to calm the nervous boy. The action only made Leeteuk more nervous. With tense shoulders and his breath held, Leeteuk watched as Kangin opened the door and let himself into the house.

“Ah, so this is the reason why you’ve abandoned your job.”

Leeteuk looked around in search of the voice and finally saw the same female he had seen weeks earlier argue with Kangin. He offered a smile, hoping that the lady would stop looking at him with her hawk-like eyes.

Mrs. Kim descended the stairs and stopped before Leeteuk, her eyes glaring at the boy in front of her. “What’s your name?”

At this question, both Leeteuk and Kangin froze, neither of them realising that they would need a new feminine name for the disguise to play. With a quick look at Kangin, Leeteuk answered with a shaky breath. “Lee…Teuksu.”

The old lady nodded before waving her hand to signal waiting footmen to help bring their luggage to their room. “Lunch will be ready in half an hour.”

Just remembering the other family member, Kangin stopped his mother. “Is father here today?”

“Youngwoon, how can you even ask that question? Of course not. He’s at the harbour doing business.”

Kangin merely nodded with relief painted across his face, and took Leeteuk up to the room they would be staying in. Once in the secludedness of their room, Leeteuk wrenched his arm from Kangin’s grasp.

“Your name is Youngwoon?”

Kangin sighed tiredly, hoping that Leeteuk wouldn’t have noticed his mother addressing him by his real name. “Yes, it’s Youngwoon. The only reason why I use Kangin is because I hate my name. Youngwoon doesn’t seem to fit me…Kangin on the other hand…”

Leeteuk put his hand up to stop Kangin from talking. “Yes, yes, I know, you want to be known as a strong person.” At this comment, Kangin grinned and puffed his chest out in an attempt to look strong. Instead of laughing, Leeteuk merely sat on the edge of the soft bed, thinking. “We really don’t know a lot about each other.”

Kangin joined the smaller boy, putting his arm around his shoulders for comfort. “No, we don’t but it doesn’t matter. We know enough for this plan to work. Besides, you haven’t even told me your real name either! It’s not Lee Teuksu, is it? I’ll be really hurt if you told my mother your real name but not to me.”

Laughing, Leeteuk shook his head. “No, it’s not. But for the sake of returning the favour, I’ll tell you my name.” He lifted a single finger up and motioned Kangin to move closer to hear his name. “Park Jungsu. Please don’t tell anyone or use that name, ever.”

“Your secret is safe with me, my princess,” whispered Kangin, grinning as Leeteuk’s face became hot and bothered.

“Don’t call me that.”

“What? My princess? But you are my princess!”

Knowing that Kangin was totally incorrigible, Leeteuk threw his hands up in frustration and glared at Kangin. “I’m not your anything.”

“Aw don’t be like that.” Kangin pouted and started to act all cute. “We're meant to pretend to be engaged anyways!”

“Wha-?”

Unfortunately for Leeteuk, a maid knocked on the door at that moment, interrupting their conversation and notifying them of lunch. As the couple walked towards the dining room, Leeteuk kept a firm eye on Kangin while the boy in question realised that he shouldn’t have opened his mouth and avoided all eye contact. Just before they were seated at the table that beared luxurious foods of all sorts, Leeteuk purposely trod of Kangin’s foot, smirking as Kangin let out a gasp and hopped a bit on the other foot.

“Oh dear,” gushed Leeteuk, fluttering his mascara-layered eyelashes. “Did I step on your foot honey?”

“N-No, you didn’t. I just hit my shin on the table leg.” Kangin bit down on his lip to prevent himself from screaming out in pain. Heels, no matter what size, are painful tools for foot treading.

“That’s good. I wouldn’t want you to get hurt, now do we?”

At the sugary smile that was delivered, Kangin shivered and made a clear note in his head to himself to refrain from making up random facts about their ‘fake dating life’. During this whole ordeal, Mrs. Kim observed the two like a hawk around its prey, not once leaving them from her sight.

“So,” interrupted Mrs. Kim as the couple across her became quiet. “Lee Teuksu was it? Tell me about yourself.”

Once again, Leeteuk started to wring his hands nervously and started to become paranoid that his wig would fall off. “Well there’s not much to know about me. I-er-…have three younger cousins.”

“Go on.”

Side glancing at Kangin with uncertainty, Leeteuk continued, not sure if he should be talking about his dongsaengs. “Well ever since we can remember, we’ve been orphans at one of the countryside orphanages and it was only recently, in the past months, that we came to Seoul to explore the city and busy life that is so different to the peaceful countryside.”

“Tell me about your parents.”

“My parents?” In all honesty, it had been years since he had thought about his parents. Through the years of being beaten for no reason and through the years of taking care of his cousins, he had forgotten what his parents looked like or how they were like. Multiple beatings and concussions guaranteed that. “I’m sad to say that I don’t remember much of them.”

Kangin frowned. So far, he knew that most of the story was bogus, thought up at the spur of the moment without much care, but at the mention of his parents, Leeteuk’s face had become lost and confused. As if he really couldn’t remember his parents. Underneath the table, Kangin held Leeteuk’s hand tightly, his warmth giving the other boy support, even though Leeteuk was too distracted to notice.

“Do you have any pictures of Kangin when he was a child?” In a desperate attempt at changing the subject, Leeteuk asked this not realising the sour face the mother pulled.

“Why would I want to show you family photos? You think if you tell me your sap story that I would just welcome you into the family? Please, we’re not weak. You may say you’re in love and will marry each other but until you get my blessing, you might as well forget about each other.” Mrs Kim snarled at Leeteuk and Leeteuk could almost see little fangs in her mouth.

“I'm sorry, I didn’t mean any disrespect.”

“You best think before you talk then.” With that, Mrs. Kim threw down her napkin and strode out of the dining hall, her head up high with an air of royalty.

Once left alone, Leeteuk turned to Kangin with mixed feelings. “Kangin, we need to talk privately.”

Just as Kangin was about to suggest their room, Leeteuk took his hand and pulled him out of the house to a nearby park that he had seen on the way to Kangin’s childhood home. “Ya, Leeteuk, slow down. What’s wrong?”

“What’s wrong?” Leeteuk spun around and glared at him, his fiery expression glowing in the sunlight of the park. “You told your mother we were getting married! Without telling me!”

“I don’t understand why you’re making such a big deal about it. After all, this is just fake partnering. None of this is real but from your reactions, it’s almost like you wish it was.”

“I do not!”

Kangin merely arched his brow.

“I don’t understand why or how you think so.”

“Oh believe me, I have my ways.”

Puffing his cheeks out, Leeteuk pouted and turned away from him, enjoying the walk through the park of colourful flowers, ignoring the whines of the younger male behind him.

“Aw come on Teukie, don’t be like that! I didn’t mean to tease you.”

Leeteuk continued to stroll through the park and take in the sights.

“You know, you are so cute when you get angry.”

This made Leeteuk turn around and lift his leg to kick the younger male but when his kick got blocked, Leeteuk froze as their faces became close and intimate. He struggled in his grasp and tried to pull away but Kangin kept his firm grip on him.

“I’m sorry,” muttered Kangin as he leaned in for a kiss.

However, the kiss was interrupted as Leeteuk still tried to wriggle from the hold on him and missed his footing on the grass, pulling Kangin down with him as the couple tumbled onto the floor in a pile, Kangin’s shirt getting caught on a nearby tree and ripping.

“Ah!” Leeteuk winced as he felt Kangin’s full weight being placed on him. He didn’t like calling people fat or anything but there was no avoiding it when Kangin weighed a ton. The fact that it could have been a muscle escaped Leeteuk’s attention as he pushed Kangin off of him, ignoring the pained whine from the younger boy.

“Ow! My shirt!!" Kangin gaped at his ripped shirt.

“Sorry?” replied Leeteuk meekly.

Kangin grinned, an idea suddenly popping into his head. “Well, you can repay me for that.” With his lips puckered, Kangin leaned in hoping for the kiss that was never his.

Leeteuk leaned away from the boy and was cornered into a tree, the tree that was responsible for the tear in the first place. He glared angrily at the tree before putting his hands up in defence. “Wait! I have an idea! I’ll just sew it up for you!”

Without any warning, Leeteuk grabbed Kangin’s hand and briskly strode back to the mansion, not paying any attention to Kangin’s complaints. He seemed to be doing that a lot lately. When they entered the shared bedroom, Leeteuk immediately opened the bedside drawer to find a mini kit with sewing utensils.

“How you knew where to find that is beyond me.” Kangin looked wearily at Leeteuk as the boy in question sat on the edge of the bed to sew.

“I used to sew all the time for my cousins and I always kept my needle and thread in the bedside drawer. What a coincidence that it’s there as well in this house!”

Kangin merely stared at the older boy as Leeteuk happily started to stitch up the rip in his shirt. With the wig and the dress, Kangin could swear that Leeteuk was his girlfriend. He was certainly acting like it and the appearance didn’t make it any easier. Unfortunately, he voiced his thoughts.

“Why are you so girly?”

Instantly, Kangin regretted the wording of the question and the question itself as Leeteuk’s expression turned cold, immediately putting down the shirt unfinished. “Sorry for being nice.”

Chills went up Kangin’s spine. “No, I didn’t mean it that way!”

“Whatever.” Leeteuk felt tired of this whole ordeal. He had been helping Kangin from the goodness of his heart and he didn’t understand why Kangin couldn’t stop teasing him. He had had enough of being called a girl in the past. In fact, he despised it the most. “I need to go for a walk.”

Kangin watched as his fake-partner left the room and turned back to the shirt sadly. “Couldn’t you finish this at least?” question Kangin, the lost boy looking around the room as if the shirt would be stitched up when he looked at it again.

As Leeteuk neared the kitchen for something to eat, his mind reared wildly, his thoughts jumbled up and in a mess. He needed to take a break from everything to do with Kangin and have some alone time to himself, not in drag. Sadly, staying in the Kim household for weeks to come prevented that so time to himself would satisfy Leeteuk for now.

He entered the kitchen in search for nibbles, not noticing that one Mrs. Kim already preoccupied the room.

“You think you can just help yourself?”

Leeteuk jumped, startled and regretted leaving the bedroom. “I was hoping to get some bread…” He trailed off as Mrs. Kim advanced, a sinister look upon her face.

“You’re hiding something, I can feel it.”

“I-I’m not hiding anything.”

“You are!” She grabbed his shoulders roughly, catching some tendrils between her fingers. “Why do you look so familiar? Tell me!”

Leeteuk whimpered not in fright because of Mrs. Kim but because of what she was doing. He clenched his eyes shut as he remembered something he rather not.

You’re disgusting! Sewing, cooking, cleaning! Everything about you reeks of her femineity! You make me sick!

“Tell me who you are!” screamed Mrs. Kim as she pulled on the wig, the fake hair falling from Leeteuk’s netted head and onto the floor.

The two stared at each other in shock, neither one believing what just happened.
