“Always with the chivalry, Angel. You’re really good at it.” She took his arm, and almost giggled like a little girl. She held it in, though. They really did need to check out the vampire nest. She had grabbed the piece of paper, and put it in her pocket. She didn’t know if she should grab weapons or not, so she had a stake in the band of her jeans, just in case. She had a feeling that whatever this place was that Giles was sending her would either bring up a whole bunch of questions or a dead end ( ... )

Angel hesitated at the stairs when Buffy started up first. He was hungry, and weak, and he wasn't sure this was a good idea. Correction: he knew this was a bad idea. He almost said he was okay taking the elevator, but then he realized that meant they'd be in an enclosed space together for at least 3 minutes. Completely alone. That wasn't acceptable ( ... )

Buffy could hear him drinking the blood, and she couldn’t help but slow down a little bit going up the stairs. She wanted to turn around and ask him what was wrong, but she didn’t want to embarrass him? All that talk about her being able to deal with all this stuff like an adult and them dealing with it together? Yeah, it still bugged her with the whole drinking thing. She’d stand by the fact that they had to be able to talk about it and make it work and all that stuff, but some things were better left unsaid, unseen. So she kept walking up the stairs ( ... )

He noticed her suddenly speed up, and felt his heart sink. No matter what she said, this-- it bothered her. And why shouldn't it? Knowing he was a vampire, and being reminded of it were two different things. Did he want her to be comfortable with it? He wasn't sure, he just knew the high from their date in Central Park had definitely faded ( ... )

“I wasn’t really hungry, then.” She said equally quiet. It was like an argument with no meaning, placing facts that had hidden meanings, maybe. It was complicated, and half of it was her fault, the other half was his. Bad timing, stupid insecurities on both of their sides. She tried to save the moment, but there was nothing she really wanted to say at the moment. She really wanted her food. Maybe that’s why she was being the way that she was. Whatever that way was, she didn’t even know. What were they even fighting about again? Oh, yeah, it wasn’t fighting..it was just. Nonsense, that’s what it was ( ... )

By the time Angel figured out how to get to the movie menu, there was a knock at the door. Buffy all but ran to answer it, and soon she was sitting beside him, a plate of hot food in her hands and a happy smile on her face. "So, movies?" she asked, digging into her food.

Angel decided then and there that he would never understand her. They'd gone from awkward and sullen, to comfortable and happy, in a matter of seconds. Pushing that aside, he went back to the movie menu.

"Uh... 'Aliens in the Attic,' 'Angels and Demons,' 'Bruno,' 'Coraline'... You know I have no idea what any of these are, right?"

She had shoved some of the heavenly chicken parmesan in her mouth as Angel was naming movies off. “Right, because I’m all up with the popular culture too.” She didn’t even know why she even owned a tv sometimes. She never had time, or really, the remote. With the slayerettes taking over her house.

“Okay, so no to Angels and Demons. I don’t really want to watch some person trying to recreate what really exists. I’ll either get really mad or I’ll laugh.” She kept listening. She really had no idea.

“Um, Bruno? I don’t know. Aliens in the attic? Huh?”

She shoved more in her mouth. It was really good.

She saw Fast and Furious.

“That one. Vin Diesel. Yum.”

She looked at him, and smiled.

Angel had to agree with her about the 'Angels and Demons' movie. Best to just not go there.

"That one. Vin Diesel. Yum."

Angel returned her look with a raised eyebrow. "That 'yum' had better be about your food," he warned, though he couldn't quite hide the warmth in his voice.

He selected the movie, then leaned back and rested his arm along the back of the couch, lightly over her shoulders. Not exactly holding, just touching. "First the pig, now a guy named after gasoline."

She rolled her eyes. “The pig is an animal, and a pig.” She pointed to the screen. “Apparently he’s gay.” But it really didn’t hurt to look. Besides.. He’d have to be crazy to think that she was thinking about bedding anyone else. If he only knew what the hell was going through her mind. Actually, he probably did. She wasn’t an idiot. He wanted this as much as she did.

She put her food down, because she had mowed most of it down anyway, and leaned up against him. “Even if he’s not gay, he’s probably really not as strong as he says he is. He wouldn’t get vampires. He’d probably be the first to go, actually. Which is a sad thought.”

Hrm.

“I’d have to stake Vin Diesel. Crap.”

She leaned against him, and Angel wrapped his arm more securely around her shoulders. He couldn't help but laugh at her 'sad thought' of staking Vin Diesel. He squeezed her against him and kissed her forehead.

"You... are so strange. As soon as I think I know what's going on in that head of yours, you say or do something to surprise me." He rested his cheek on top of her head, and said softly, "Don't ever change."

She snuggled in closer to him, and set her arm on his leg as a reaction to being pulled closer. She laughed.

“I don’t ever plan on changing. I’m weird and erratic, I can’t help it. Besides… isn’t that why you fell in love with me in the first place?”

She said love. Yep, love love love.

She kissed him on the bottom of his jawbone.

Angel smiled in reaction to her laugh. Hearing her talk about their love so easily-- he was still on the emotional roller-coaster, but now it was definitely going up. "Yes, it is."

And then she kissed his jaw, and Angel froze. Slow, slow, slow, he repeated to himself. They'd snuggled before, they'd even made out together before, without it leading to anything. Why should this be any different?

Because they didn't have the threat of him losing his soul hanging over their heads. And that really made all the difference.

Angel had just decided to untangle them, put a respectable distance between them before one or the other went a little too far, when he made a mistake: he looked at her.

There she was, the most perfect girl he'd ever met, who loved him, wanted him, and even now was looking at him without a shred of fear or anger. They were in a relationship, and he wasn't going to lose his soul, ever, no matter what he did, or they did together, or ( ... )

For a few seconds, Angel had pulled away from her. She didn’t think anything different of it, because she knew what was going on in his head. She got it. Same thing. It was like an adjacent wave. He was trying to amend to her stupid wishes, and not sleep, or go to fast with her. That was a better phrase.

It was interesting, thinking about it now. The second she thought about throwing caution to the wind, it seemed like that is exactly what Angel had decided. She was going to tule the decision one as mutual. Technically, their first date was shopping, second date was carriage ride, and third date was the movie. It all worked out, and that was slow enough.

And Jesus Christ, Buffy thought to herself, Angel has his soul! Forever. There being no chance to loose it. Ever. What was so wrong with what they were doing? Why couldn’t they be? Who was judging when the only people in the room were her and Angel? Why did she care about judgment? Since when did she give a damn about that ( ... )

He'd been afraid he'd pushed too far, too fast, but Buffy eagerly pulled him against her, arching into his touch. He still thought for one brief instant of pulling away, of trying to abide by her wishes to go slow: after all, those wishes had been stated when she was thinking clearly, not overwhelmed by lust. Then he decided, why? She was responding, she obviously wanted this, he wanted this, they were both concenting adults, if they were going to be equal in this relationship, he shouldn't always have to be the level-headed one ( ... )

Angel had ripped off his own shirt, as well as hers. He was playing with her nipple, and she couldn’t help but moan a soft cry of pleasure. His hands were on her, hers on him, trailing up and down his back in a desperate attempt to know every line, every ridge, every rib that she possibly could. She had arched into his touch, into his mouth, begging for more ( ... )

Angel grunted as he found himself on the floor on his back, the unneeded wind knocked out of him. He was momentarily dazed, and in the few seconds it took him to regain his bearings, Buffy had taken advantage and pinned him to the floor. Her agression surprised him for a second, and he had to remind himself she was a sexually aware woman, not a naive schoolgirl ( ... )
