Hello 2011!

Inoshi here [waves] and I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and a Happy New Year.

I know I always talk about Marvel in my entries, usually giving my two cents about recent issues, which I will continue to do so, but...I'm lazy at the moment and won't really go in-depth (or try not to) for this entry.  Mostly because I'm behind and I can't  ( Read more... )

you know...I completely forgot about the Titanomechs. My guess is that'll be along the lines of the Ultron thing mostly because the FEAR event was supposed to be a Steve and Thor mini...that suddenly became an event. I'm sure we'll see seeds here and there, but I have a feeling there is somethign bigger down the road. Mmm, as I observe, Marvel loves using Tony as a plot device for several stories...so whatever he does really effects the MU as a whole. Our Tony is important [pets him] which is why I lurve him!

Anyways, on Avengers 8...I have to flitter back to being "dumbfounded" from my previous "pissed off at Steve" thanks to Avengers Prime #5 scans I saw at the comm. I mean...HOW in the world did it go from Steve and Tony hugging each other to Steve being all D8< "Tony..." [flails] It's written by the same author! Bendis...WTF? I mean he already screwed up who got which Infinity gem (and he was the one who wrote the Illuminati)...but this was nuts! I mean isn't this essentially being written at the same time ( ... )

Yup yup! Its like... when people go 'Tony is a control freak' and 'he micromanages others because he can't control what happens to him' and other stuff like that... it always strikes me as a bit strange because, while that is correct Tony is also unique in the sense that unlike other 'RL' control freaks he can have an actual real and BIG effect on things! He's a control freak, who actually can control so judging him by the same brush as everyone else is really rather hypocritical... I mean we don't usually judge superheroes by the same set of RL morals, right? Batman's reckless endangerment of minors? Spiderman lying to his family and using fraud-ish means for his job? Superman using his powers to gain advantage over non-powered competitors (aka Lois)? etc etc... Then why does Tony seem to be the only super judged by RL standards and then bashed for it?! D ( ... )

You know..I've been sitting here typing and re-typing trying to come up with a valid reason for all the Tony bashing. To be honest, I really have no idea why he gets so much flack as he does. I think it may be because he's just so human in comparison to the ideals of the standard hero. Despite the money and genius mind...at the end of the day, Tony is a regular guy. He has no powers, but unlike Batman, he's not trained in martial arts or an ace detective. To be honest...for being so brilliant...he really makes stupid mistakes. But that's why he's such a complex character, imo.

I read somewhere that people usually insult or put down people for assets secretly reflected in themselves. Whether or not that's true I'm not sure, but thinking of it in that sense...I think Tony is judged because so many people see themselves in him or know someone like him. Deep down they want him to be better because Tony is a person to never give up <3 ( ... )

[Umm.. posted in a new thread because for some reason I seem unable to reply.......]

Actually your comment struck a vibe with me too... Because I’ve been hunting for newer (as in with ‘real’ illustrations -_-;) Tony stuff for the last week or so and it is sooooo depressing to see the amount of Tony hate! I tried to find some solace on the net... But Cap_Ironman is literally the only community with comic!Tony still alive... There are a number of communication (one with like 800+ members) and all of them deader than disco! WHY?! ;_;

I think your observation about how Tony is ‘more real’ is very valid... But I think some of it might also be a result of the rampant anti-intellectualism so common nowadays... I mean ‘Tony is only intelligent’… Apparently the ability to build Iron Man! In a cave! With a BOX OF SCRAPS! somehow makes you lamer than having been bit by a radioactive bug! And how dare he think he can do better than all these super-powered people when he’s just a ‘normal’ man like us! How dare he think he’s better just because ( ... )

Comms are always funny like that...one minute they are alive - the next the are dust. It just goes with the fandom really. Something has to put Tony back into the spotlight, like say his third movie...before things will change.

The Tony hate will always be there UNTIL someone ELSE messes up to the level of villainy. Even then though...you have people that love to hate - especially when it was their favorite character that had been wronged. See, before I actually delved into the Avengers, I was a Spidey fan. Spiderman was my main guy and when I was getting into Civil War, according to the Spidey books, Tony was a bad guy. Since I did't know Tony then, of course I didn't like him. XD I was very much >_< "wah that b*st*rd!" Then one day I decided to watch the Ironman movie because it was a loooong bus ride and I went o.o "huh...poor guy." Then I read fanfics and it was allllll downhill from there. Sad to say, I dropped Spidey (thanks OMD and BND and OMIT)and became a Tony!fan. It's almost safe to say I know more about Tony ( ... )

yeah... it's still sad though... :( Doubly sad for me, because as much as I like movie!Tony for himself and for the interest he's generated for Iron Man, I prefer comics!Tony for character... And more movies, only mean that comics Tony is probably gonna be replaced... It's just that movie!Tony right now is at the place/level of characterization that I *like* to think comics Tony has grown past once he got over the drinking in the 80s... So its like massive character devolution in a sense... Oh well, let's see...

Haha... I think the Spidey books were actually the no. 1 cause of Tony hate, because Spidey is such a favourite character... He's almost the flagship driver, so what the Spidey book have to say about an issue, often becomes what fans think of that issue... (which is why the basic premise of OMD is such a wall-banger, really) And why Spidey writers need to exercise some that 'great power, great responsibility' credo... ;) [And why I can never really forgive JMS, no matter how awesome he remains as an author... <.Though I'm ( ... )

For crossing the line as a Spidey fan...to be honest some of the stuff I saw Tony do through Civil War was something I could sympathize with. I'm actually pissed off more so with the portrayal of Peter. Sure Tony convinced him to unmask, but bottom line was it was still his choice. For some odd reason his "responsibility" and ability to think went out the window for portions of Civil War. In the end though, I think the main focus was the hurt with Peter going to the other side and the hurt Tony wasn't upfront with him and did the "lesser of two evils ( ... )
