[ACTION; PRIVATE]

*Up to this point, he'd been looking forward to the memories; all the little memories of Tomoe, their marriage, their meeting, and so on. It had been spurring him on, knowing someone was waiting for him. Someone who loved him, who was waiting for him to come home ( Read more... )

*It isn't a stretch to say that Saleh has the tendency of being where people would rather he not be. Such is his timing that he catches Kotetsu at the right moment to see an unusual expression. He butts in, naturally.*

Well, don't you look as happy as ever.

*Crap's. Sake. This is the last guy he wants to tell about this. He'd probably start crowing about it. Instant gear shift!*

Who, me? Ah, just thinking about some chores I gotta do, is all. That new hero base is getting set up, you know! Gonna have to put a lot of elbow grease into getting it fixed up.

*Oh. He changed the subject before it even started. Well, Saleh decides that he'll humor him for now.*

Ah, yes. Justice League Sirocco. A perfect setup for someone like you.

Damn straight. An organization who can help watch over this place? What's not to love? Oh, wait, you don't go for that "sentimental stuff," right?

[He spends a lot of time in the park, and that is where he finds Kotetsu, sitting by himself, looking uncharacteristically grim.

Yuri isn't one for getting involved in the emotional lives of others, but after all, he and Kotetsu are from the same world, and they know each other somewhat.]

Hello, Kaburagi. [A pause. He doesn't want to pry.] You seem troubled. [Being troubled is something he knows about.]

Eh?

*Evasive mode!*

Ah, well... just wondering how well this whole superhero league thing's going to go. I mean, it's one thing to talk about it, but now we're actually getting somewhere with it.

Is that all? [Even he isn't that worried about it, and he is serious about everything.] It's going fine so far, and there are a number of people here who have experience with such things. If there are difficulties, we'll work through them.

It isn't like you to worry about such things. [He doesn't remember everything about this man, but even based on their dealings so far in Sirocco--Kotetsu rarely seems to worry, eager to charge ahead and not think about the consequences. He feels somewhat awkward about this, as they're not personally close, but something is decidedly off, so he'll ask.] What else is the matter?

Sure, sure. Just gotta think about these things, you know? It's gonna be a big deal, protecting the folks around here.

Eh? What makes you think anything's the matter? Trust me, I'm fine. Once this whole thing gets started up, you'll think you were imagining the whole thing!

[Meanwhile, Barnaby is blissfully unaware of his own loss, since his own memory shows nothing about his parents' death, or the betrayal of his father figure of nearly twenty years.

But he does remember Kotetsu, somewhat. And he's kind of unimpressed by the fact that he had to rescue him at least once.

When he notices him with a melancholy expression on his face, though--unusual for him, really--something tells him that he should probably be cautious here. After all, the older man's been around longer. Maybe he finally remembered something that wasn't what he expected.

So he simply walks on over.]

Is there something wrong, old man? [But it won't stop him from calling him "old man". Oh, no.]

*Sadly, he hasn't remembered you at all yet, Bunny. Give him time. Anyway, once again that sad face gets packed away almost immediately.*

Who, me? Nah. Just thinking about what we're gonna need to get that new Justice League thing up and running properly is all. Oi, Bunny, did you get any memories back after that laundry gig?

I did.

[It had you in it.]

Hey, great! I think we did a pretty good job back there. You deserved those memories, I say. Even if you're a little know-it-all sometimes.

Huh? You're doing that, too?

[First Rin, now this guy. What's the story?]

Sure, what the hell? Gotta look to the future first before you worry about the past! Besides, it's kinda unheroic of me to be hoarding stuff like that, you know?

But what about lessons learned from the past? I've learned a lot that I wouldn't know otherwise thanks to the memories I got back.

Ah... well, that's important too, but sometimes you just gotta be ready for what's right there in front of you, right?

I'm just a good guy, what can I say? It's not like there aren't a lot of folks out there who can't go looking like I can, so spread the wealth, huh?

Sounds kinda conceited if you ask me. Maybe we're not so different after all.

What's so conceited about doing something for someone else? You got a weird idea of how this sorta thing works, buddy.
