Is it? Yes, it's yet another Poll!

So, let's say that there were to be e-books (for an ish definition of books) of about 40,000 words, which breaks down to around five to eight stories depending on the length of the stories included, how should I chose the stories? If I have enough stories in a specific mythos, that's an easy group, but I have a lot of stories that stand ( Read more... )

eeeeek!, it takes a village

I say, gather your stories all together, lay them out on the table (actual, or metaphorical, whichever works for you), and see how they fit together. There may well be an organic grouping in the mix.

I like anthologies by theme (a la Martin Greenberg). I also love anthologies by story-verse. I even love anthologies by order of writing and/or publication (whichever makes more sense) to see how the author & their worlds grow over time. And if it came down to it, the mixed bag of Huffish goodness would be just marvelous to.

I even don't mind some overlap between anthologies (seeing the same story more than once) - so long as it makes sense, and doesn't happen too, too much.

Not much help am, I? Basically, if you write it, I will buy it. And read it. And share with others. :-)

My tickybox = 'something else', i.e. 'any grouping that you like, providing you write a forward or an afterword or interspesions that make it a collection, rather than just individual objects in a box.

More stories please...
I picked genre and chronological - random would be fine too. The only thing I would dislike is if you repeat stories - so that I have to get Collection 5 because it has one story that doesn't appear anywhere else but the other 4-7 stories have already appeared in at least one collections...(what, bitter? Me? What gives you that idea? I'm just sorting my Retief books...).

Assuming each story appears in one collection - I really don't care, I'll be buying all the collections and can read them in any order I please. Let's see, I'm in a Vicky mood - this one, and this one, and two from this collection...

Actually, there's another grouping, which isn't random, per se, but not necessarily genre, either -- but a "thematic" in the sense of "the author thinks these stories fit together in some way."

The author was trying to avoid thinking about this too hard. *g*

Oh, but it doesn't have to be a thinking kind of grouping! More of a "hm, I wrote X, and Y, and they just go together nicely" kind of thing. I suppose Authorial Whim, as opposed to Truly Random, would be a better phrasing? O:>

IF there are enough stories of one sorta genre to make a collection, I'd slightly prefer collections of approximately similar genre. However, if there is to be one collection, and there are a few more stories than fit, pleas pick ones that form a sequence in time, or failing that the ones that are *your* favourites.

I'd most prefer to be able to buy things such as the next book in a series, so I can add it to the collection on my ebook reader rather than carrying more weight with me on holiday.

Whatever, if you can make ebooks available by some means that would be good. Preferably not scribbled on with DRM, because I like to read on whatever gadget I am carrying at the time.

Is a business arrangement possible so that they go via the Baen site? I buy more from them than everywhere else combined. My browser is permanently logged in...
