and so cometh another school year. Maybe I should have tried for a job instead afterall. Oh well. Too late to worry about that one now. 続きより仕方がないよね

oh, no. I'm looking to rent this apartment complex with another Linguistics grad student. I just have to get all the apps in. Georgetown is definitely not giving me housing. Last year, when i was techinically a new master's student, they were like, "we'll put you up in a hotel for the weekend, so you can look for housing in the city. good luck with that." jianjian's going to Smith College up in MA.
Yeah, I was always fortunate enough to live with people who had rice cookers (and who were nice enough to let me use them. a lot ^^;), so I never needed to bring one for myself. I would definitely starve without one. I think the only things I know how to make without rice are 1. a grilled cheese sandwich and 2. okonomiyaki. These are, in my opinion, both wonderful foods, but I wouldn't want to have to live by alternating them for a year.
I'll mostly be using Metro, I think. There's a bus-stop literally right outside the gates, and the thought of either paying Georgetown's outrageous parking fees or fighting for the free-ish parking in the area every morning makes me cringe. My apt-mate will have a car, though, so grocery shopping will no longer be the least fav part of my week.
I will! It's an incredibly horrible recipe, though. The Japanese lady who taught it to me is as bad as my mother in terms of 'recipes': it was full of "add the appropriate amount"s and "when it looks right"s. And all questions of "what's the 'appropriate amount'?" or "when does it look right?" were met with: It just does. Maybe I'll take pictures next time I make it, so 'add the right amount of flour' will have a picture that shows you how much flour you're going for...
I envy those prices. Bloody hell, almost makes me wish I was returning to DC. Know what you mean about catching up with blogs and e-mails, though. It sounds like you're pretty much in order and yeah, rice cookers are a must. So, are you dropping your sister off for her first week?

I dunno yet. Maybe. She has to go up the day before I start classes, tho, so probably not.
