To all my friends in Texas...

When your governor alights his white horse and leads the entire state to secede, please know that you have a place here.

It's not quite as balmy as you're used to, but summer's coming and you'll have a few months to find a more habitable clime before the snow flies again.

Come on up!

We'll set up tents!

politics, crazies

Gov. Good Hair is a twit. I'm not leaving, but I might need a passport to come visit you. :-)

Oh, turn on the news!

Your gov is leading the cry to create the Republic of Texas!

Imagine--the entire border patrol migrating, en masse, to Oklahoma!

Instead of the Battle of San Jacinto, this time it will be ?

If we secede, can we deport dubya?

Perry obviously never heard of Texas Vs. White. The Supreme Court in 1869 ruled that the Constitution does not permit secession, and that any ordinances or attempts to do so were null. This is still a somewhat controversial ruling, coming as it did in the midst of Reconstruction, but it has never been overturned. So seceding would be illegal.

I will say, though, that if the Republicans think the tea parties and resultant posing are helping them, they aren't listening to all the people at the events. 3 of my co-workers were expressing disillusionment with both Dems and Reps. today.

Given the last bout of secession ended up killing almost a million Americans, a total rate of casualties that wasn't surpassed until World War II I'm surprised that this stuff is coming up.

I say, if Texas want to secede, let them secede. But they don't get to keep all the stuff the fedgov has given them. Either they have to give it back or they have to pay for it with their own money. If they get invaded, they get no aid. If Hurricane Bubba rolls down and wipes the Texas Gulf Coast clean they get no help. If they start some crap they get invaded by the US Army.
