Late to the party, that's me

I have a knack for reading about or seeing something that everyone raves (or rants) about several years after the hype has gone down, and only then getting interested in it. Like Penny Arcade, Ai no Kusabi, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc. (Although FMA and AnK have new anime series out, so I'm not a total slacker in that regard.) ( Read more... )

Glad to hear you're interested in Silent Hill 2! It's probably my favorite game of all-time; it made a huge impact on me. So yes, I'd say it's worth it. I'd say the whole series (or the first 4 anyway; I haven't played any beyond those) is worth it, but 2 is undoubtedly the best of the bunch.

American McGee's Alice is one I keep hearing good things about but haven't played, so I can't say whether that one would be worth getting as well.

That's right, you are into Silent Hill, aren't you? I should have just asked you directly. :P Off and on over the years I've heard of this supposedly terrifying game villain called "Pyramid Head", but never thought anything of it. I thought the name sounded kinda silly, actually. But then recently I happened upon a description of him (it?) during one of my aimless web-surfing sessions, and said description piqued my interest. After clicking several links, I had read a fair amount about the game in general, and I'm definitely interested in playing it now.

As for Alice, I just like that kind of dark, macabre story, and the fact that it's a reimagining of an already WTF-inducing story only makes it all the more attractive. Alice as a knife-wielding schizophrenic? Score.

Pyramid Head has more or less become the mascot of the series; enough to appear in a sports game for kids!
Best not to venture any further than you have in reading information about him, though. I know you're spoilerphobic, and the less you know about the game the better the surprises will be.

That's the most I've heard about Alice, too. I'm intrigued.

Eh...I think I've already come across some spoilers, but I'm not gonna cry about it. I'm less spoilerphobic now than I used to be. Still, it's nice not to have the whole show/game/whatever revealed before I even start it.

(What's this I hear about Pyramid Head raping other monsters...? Eep.)

Oh pfffff. Both games are so ridiculously old that I don't think you should have any problem playing them unless your computer is a clunker.

As for SH, I've been told to play them multiple times, and even bought 1 and was given 3 (by MP, ILU, MP. And I'll play this game someday, just for you), but they and most of their fans strike me as so damned pretentious and ~YOONIQUE~ that I can't motivate myself to bother to play them.

Is 2 the one with Pyramid head?

Point. I'm just not a huge PC game fan, so I tend to not know apples from oranges in this field. :P

Yeah, it's the game Pyramid Head was introduced. Something about being a projection of James' psyche, or something like that.

I WILL, BB.
Should I just play it and not bother with 1, or should I play 1 first?
