Gardening always eases some stress for me. Picking weeds is hypnotic so it calms me down, i guess.

I definitely feel that. I've been putting 2-3 hours a day and the time just rolls by.

I find clarity in yardwork. Hopefully it'll bring about some insight for you.

I'm not sure it's given me clarity, but it has kept me occupied in a constructive way. It was really worth it to see my landlord's smile when seeing how nice the gardens looked after i was done with weeding/pruning and one of the boys downstairs finished mowing and digging out weed-trees.

All jobs are.... assholes right now.
You can't just be a programmer... you have to be a graphic designer. You can't just be HR, you have to do marketing. You can't just do office administration, you have to do social media. You can't just be an accountant, you also have to be a secretary and database management. Its... CRAZY!

This is a great point. One job disappearance that hits me hard is secretaries (or office managers, i suppose they're called nowadays). In my first job we were a company of 5-6 people and one was the secretary. She was indispensible! In later jobs we only had one admin per department of 50+ (and maybe a PA for the bosses).

There are so many things that administrative staff do that would still be worthwhile today. Finding the best time to schedule meetings, making sure people have coffee in the room so they don't have an excuse to turn up late or disappear in the middle, or taking minutes!! What i would give for people who knew how to take minutes in 2020. Fucking "watch the Zoom recording" my ass. Why don't we pay people for that stuff any more? Surely companies are earning enough to afford it, and it'd save so much time for people whose areas of expertise lie elsewhere.

Clerks and secretaries are considered redundant positions now... as if they could be replaced by EMAIL ( ... )

I love plants, I love gardening. I love my hands in the dirt, and growing things. If I ever retire from hospital, I want to be volunteer plant botanist for the national park system. I used to be a botanist for NPS, so doing it for free would eliminate a lot of the b.s I dealt with as an employee. Basically, I approve of your retirement plan.

*fist bump*

How long do you plan on staying in that town? Maybe you can make some connections and bond with folks if/when covid-shit ever goes away.

Working for NPS sounds fantastic. Last time i went hiking with a friend (very rare occurrence for me) we mused about being on the teams that did stuff like bushwhacking/trailblazing, i think that'd be neat. I saw a seasonal job here maintaining mountain bike trails, which is awesome, but they need experience with chainsaws and i was like... uhhh.

For now i am thinking of staying till December, when this suite is rented out to someone else for a few months. I'm not sure what to do then. I imagine i could probably meet people by trying to find clubs that do outdoor activities (trail running, mountain biking etc), but outdoor activities is one of the things that i prefer to do alone. Actually, i prefer to do almost everything alone. It just makes me feel a bit weird when everyone else is in a group, though. I think it's because corona has pulled people back into their circles, so having a solo drifter sticks out more.
