I am excited! Left it at Whole Foods in Boca Raton, Florida five months ago and now it is caught, read and will be released!

This is a compelling memoir of a Transylvanian woman who survived Auschwitz. She arrived there because her husband was deported and she wished to join him, enlisting her parents and children for the journey. Unbeknownst to her, their destination was Auschwitz. She alone survived to freedom.

This is a very well-written but long, almost 900 pages, novel about a 13-year-old who fights in the Civil War, the 15 year old girl he wed when he was almost 50 and his former slave. The novel weaves in the history of other townfolk and the injuries suffered by the veteran and those he wroughts on his wife and family.

This is the memoir of the Nicaraguan poet who played an instrumental role in the Sandanistas coming to power. It is detailed and well-written. Although she describes some flaws once the Sandanistas came to power, she did not describe in detail why her family seemed to support the Contras. This book chronicles the author's interactions with one of the greatest actresses of any generation. It is not a true biography but more the mmemories a biographer's twenty year friendship with an icon. This is the self-published memoir of a former Chinese gang member who grew up in San Francisco's Chinatown in the 1960s and 1970s. I found this book at a store in that neighborhood. Although it is well-written in that it keeps the reader's attention, it seems to lack the clear eye of an editor.

This is a fun, quick read. The protagonist is a female chopper pilot-lawyer who begins work at the Pentagon when a famous scientist, who works for the military, is slain. She is assigned to defend the accused murderer. The unfolding of the mystery is filled with some twists and keeps the reader's attention.

While in Washington, D.C., I went to my favorite bookstore, Kramer's Books, and picked up Dancer. This is the novelization/biography of Rudolph Nureyev. It is exceptionally well-written. This was an anthology of short stories written by Beryl Markham who had grown up in Africa. She was an equestrian who was an early female aviator. The cover states that these storis augment her memoir, which I have not yet read. Even so, the book was enjoyable and a quick read.
