Many apologies for the huge gap between parts. I'm afraid my brain took an unannounced holiday sometime around the beginning of August and didn't really return until a few weeks ago. But now things are going swimmingly, so the next part should be much sooner this time.

This started out as a little missing scene, and then grew, and grew, and grew. I think of it as background to Sentinel, because it started off as a way to get into Rhodey's head, and because all my fics end up in the same universe somehow, but it stands alone fine.
