Rodney's pale beneath the dimmed infirmary lights, grey with fatigue, the skin beneath his eyes shadowed with pain. John watches as he sleeps, Rodney's profile overlaid by a faint, jagged replay of the ambush they'd survived, livid with all the color John's memory can supple in sharp, bitter contrast to the sterility of hospital white. There's a bruise on Rodney's wrist, another on his jaw, and beneath the standard-issue, pale green scrubs John knows there are three ragged scars, souvenir of a surgeon's hands gone fishing for bullets, nurses deftly sewing up flesh

Ohhhhh I love the little touches John does allow himself - rests a wrist on the bed and lets the very tips of his fingers touch Rodney's hand and gently rubs the sore spots on his hands, the tendons tight on the inside of his arms - and then, oh Rodney, knowing right where he belongs, going where he's needed and telling John what he needs to hear, asdfasdflksdj oh boys. *squashes them together*

*whines* ohh, John, so isolated and angry and guilty all the time. This is what I love about this pairing, that Rodney's able to just smash all that out of the way and give him what he needs. Lovely.

wow - all the replies are on this thread! ahhhh, so good.
Rodney looks surprised - genuinely so, and John reckons that means he's a jackass or two higher up the chain of command than he'd imagined; two-star general fuck-up at least
Hehehe. Loved this line. The story itself was really good, but this line made it for me :)

Oh John and your Atlas-size sense of responsibility, and Spartan repression. And Rodney accepting the apologies and assistance and then figuring it out and just sliding home and up against John.

OOoh, I love the image of John retreating into his bed (blanketfort!) all sullen and unhappy and guilty. And Rodney being the emotionally-sensible one- hee! How sad must John be if Rodney is the one who knows what the hell's going on?

I can't put into words what is just so right about this line, exactly as it comes in the fic. It's just perfectly there.
