Special Delivery

“I am so happy to be here when nobody’s dead!” said Abby, the moment she’d stepped through the wormhole to Atlantis.

Sheppard grinned, stepping forward from where he’d been waiting to greet the NCIS team. “We’re happy about that, too, Miss Sciuto.”

“It’s Abby, please,” she insisted and hugged him - briefly, she knew he wasn’t as comfortable with that sort of thing as her team was - then moved to hug McKay, who’d been standing beside him. “And I don’t mean to be rude, but we’re not here to see you.”

“Not that we’re not glad to see you,” put in McGee, coming up behind her. “But we’re really hoping we didn’t miss it.”

“Miss what?” asked McKay.

“The baby, Rodney,” said Sheppard, thumping the other man’s shoulder lightly. “And, no, you didn’t.”

“And Ziva’s okay?” Gibbs demanded.

The colonel nodded. “Yeah, she’s been working right up until-” He broke off, one hand going to his ear in a way that meant his radio had demanded his attention. “Sheppard here. What? Right now!? We’re on our way.”

“What?” asked Abby.

“Agent David just arrived at the infirmary,” he said. “Her water broke.”

“Then we should hurry,” said Ducky. “Do you think your Dr. Beckett will mind a little help?”

“Of course not,” said Sheppard. “This way.”

The NCIS team was hot on his heels as they made their way quickly through the corridors. Tony was sitting in the infirmary’s waiting area - he shot to his feet when he spotted them. “Boss! Ziva, she’s-”

“Breathe, DiNozzo,” ordered Gibbs. “How long has it been?”

“Just… just a couple of minutes.”

Ducky patted his shoulder. “She’s in good hands with Dr. Beckett, but I’ll see how they’re getting on.”

“Thanks,” Tony sighed. “Ziva’s… she’s fine, actually. Totally calm, has been this whole time. And Doc Beckett says she and the baby are healthy, but…”

“But you can’t help freaking out?” suggested Abby.

“Just a little,” he admitted, then managed a smile. “Thanks for coming.”

“What, you thought being in another galaxy could keep us away?” teased McGee.

“Nah,” said Tony.

“Anthony?” They all whirled to see Ducky standing in the doorway - he smiled. “Ziva is asking for you. And you, Jethro.”

“Boss…” said Tony.

Gibbs squeezed his shoulder. “C’mon, DiNozzo, you can do this.”

“We’ll be right here waiting,” added Abby, but she grabbed McGee’s hand as soon as they disappeared into the delivery room. “I hate waiting.”

McGee smiled and steered her toward a chair.

“They’ll be fine,” added Jimmy.

“I know, I know…”

The nurses, bustling in and out, offered reassuring smiles but no news. Sheppard, who’d left after he’d shown them the way to the infirmary, returned about an hour later with a Marine from the mess hall and a cart of coffee and snacks.

“Coming along nicely,” said Ducky, joining them and accepting the cup of coffee Jimmy offered.

“How much longer?” Abby asked.

He smiled. “Babies come when they’re ready.”

As if on cue, there was a loud cry from the delivery room. Ducky hurried back inside, and returned a few minutes later.

“There’s someone who’d like to meet you.”

Ziva was sitting up in the infirmary bed, looking tired but happy. She held a blanket-wrapped bundle in her arms, which had captured Tony’s entire attention. Gibbs squeezed her shoulder, then moved to let Abby take his place.

“She’s perfect,” Abby breathed.

“Talia Jennifer David-DiNozzo,” said Ziva.

“DiNozzo-David,” Tony corrected, not looking away from his daughter.

“We can discuss it later,” she said.

“You’ll have to send us pictures with every databurst,” said Jimmy.

“Absolutely,” said Tony.
