Yesterday it was weeding time for my Heinrich Nursery. The cows were also in the field next to us, and they hadn't had green food since about, oh, April. So as soon as we started dumping weeds into their pasture, we had about 8 cows as friends. Another Car Week has come and gone. It was great to have a house full of friends, and it is great to have it back to ourselves. Car Week was it's usual over the top self, even if there were fewer supercars and trophy wives cruising the streets of Monterey. Yesterday, we watched a nice Humpback Whale swim lazily around near the aquarium. First whale we've seen in about a month. Welcome back Big Guy.

Last night, for just about the first time since we've moved to our new place, we heard Taps from DLI loud and clear.

It's funny how familiarity effects how you perceive a bird. Brown Pelicans are an endangered species, but we see them constantly, and although we like to watch them, unless they do something unique, they are just part of the scenery ( Read more... )

The local pod of Risso's Dolphins has moved into the inshore area around Monterey. The group, which ranges from about 50 to 100 is routinely seen on weekends and holidays, much like the rest of tourists (although it is funny that Evil V has never seen them during the week ( Read more... )
