Lobo Anime & Comics

13140 Central Ave SE
Albuquerque, NM 87123 - 5547
(505) 332-0499

its at the intersection of Central and Tramway. the people there are very nice and well informed and they have more 'indie' comics than any place in town.

if you are looking for superhero stuff there are many many options.

Noble on Wyoming and Montgomery
8216 Montgomery Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87109 - 1602
(505) 858-0212

and

Tall Tales Comics & Novelties
1410 Wyoming Blvd N E
Albuquerque, NM 87112 - 3863
(505) 296-6178

among many others, those are two of biggest.

there is a role playing place on juan tabo and montgomery, near page one too!, but i forget the name. Noble does role playing games often though.

good luck... a few google/dexonline searches should help.

Thanks. While I know I could Google, I really am looking for personal recommendations: while anyone can tell me where I can buy comics, finding somewhere that'll be both knowledgeable and helpful is more an issue of quite how the place is. I'm looking for "feel" more than anything. If you use those places then I'll go to them, thank you. It's a personal touch that I'm really asking for. Thanks so much for replying.

i really like both Lobo and Noble. as far as comics go, i'm far more into indie comics... stuff by Jim Mahfood, Chris Ware, Brian Lee O'Malley, etc. Lobo carries lots of that type of stuff (as well as traditional comics) and they are very nice and knowledgeable. Noble is strictly anime and superhero stuff. they have a large selection, but i generally go there for used video games. they sell card based gaming stuff and sports cards as well. they are pretty nice too, but again, i'm not much into superhero comics or anime. the last one i read was 'Danger Girl' and that was years ago ( ... )

i guess we have a lot to choose from. welcome to albuquerque!

No kidding. I have to drive for over an hour to get to my closest place (a large part of the reason why I've gotten into the habit of only picking up my standing order every couple of months).

Lobo Anime and Comics in the Four Hills shopping center (Tramway and Central) is pretty good. They have all sorts of stuff. There's also a place across the street from the university on Central.

Do you play games other than roleplaying? We have a gaming circle, but the RPGs are currently full. We hold fairly regular card/board game nights, and we usually use that group of people to build rpg groups when we need 'em.

I used to CCG - at one point, I would have counted myself as one of the best players of the Star Trek CCG in the United Kingdom, and probably in the world. Sadly, with how things worked out, I was never able to display that to the rest of the community, and now I'm more in search of a roleplaying group that I can just relax with and have an evening away from the wife. We're both going to be in a new city and I'm expecting to have to find a new life for myself, and roleplaying is an easy entry to that.
Other games wise, I'm looking for something more immersive. I probably don't want to eat up my time for a couple of weeks (I'll be moving to Albuquerque the weekend of the 18th) but after that, if you could point me in the right direction then I'd love to start playing.

its been years since i did much or looked for comics, but i know Tall Tail was good, and

Addicted to Comics & Hobbies
4008 Central Ave Se, Albuquerque, NM
(505) 255-3234

University Comic Warehouse
2116 Central Ave Se, Albuquerque, NM
(505) 242-6170

were both good back then.

As for gaming, there were places called Clockwork jabberwock, then Starbase 10, and before it Wargames west, but i think they have all gone..

But i do have some friends who game from time to time, once you are here id ask again i bet one of them would pipe up if theres space available..

I have had a very negative experience with Addicted to Comics. I went in specifically to order something unusual and to support a local merchant (instead of a chain).

1. the merchant really resisted taking my order
2. the merchant claimed the book would be in within a week -- it actually arrived 2 months later
3. the merchant was extremely surly over the phone with me

I will never, ever go back into Addicted to Comics.

Ditto on the Noble Collectibles mentioned above. I can even give you a contact name for that store: Adam Bybee. (he's my best friend's brother.) Tell him Julie sent you. :) And while you're there, go next door and try some Boba tea!
