Part 1
“Naka-sen! Yabu-sensei, ohayou gozaimasu!” Chihara greeted her teachers.
The said teachers turned around. They saw Chihara along with Hikaru. “Ohayou gozaimasu!” They said in chorus.
“Ohayou gozaimasu, Nakajima sensei! Yabu-sensei!” Hikaru greeted them as well.
“Ohayou, Yaotome-san/Hikaru-chan!” Nakajima and Yabu replied.
“Hikaru-chan?” Nakajima frowned hearing how Yabu addressed Hikaru. He was like already knew her. He wanted to ask but Yabu’s question made him forget.
“Hika… what’s happened with your arm?” Yabu worriedly asked as he saw Hikaru covered her left arm with her other hand. She was sweating and her face was also a bit paler than usual. She seemed to endure a pain and Yabu could see a tiny bit trace of blood on her white shirt. Besides, she did not stand steadily and her jeans were torn a little.
“Eh?” Nakajima asked dumfounded and looked at Hikaru’s arm.
“No-nothing.” Hikaru right away replied and hid her arm, hoping Yabu’s ability to know that she was lying was not as sharp as back then.
“Don’t lie to me!” Yabu reprimanded and walked closer to Hikaru who could not take any other back-steps away from her spot.
“I’m not…” Hikaru’s attempt to retort was cut as Yabu already stood in front of her. He swiftly grabbed her hand which was covering her arm. He forced Hikaru to show him her arm, making sure she was lying at him.
“Hi...ka…ru...” Yabu sharply stared at Hikaru after he revealed the swollen and bleeding scratch of her arm. He was angry since Hikaru tried to lie to him.
“Ah…” Hikaru lost her words by Yabu’s deathly stared.
“What’s happened to you?” Nakajima asked after looking at Hikaru’s arm.
“This morning, okaa-san was grazed by a car.” Chihara who was just silent all the time replied in Hikaru’s place.
“EH???” Yabu and Nakajima were shocked.
“It’s okay. It’s just a little scratch.” Hikaru smiled, yanked her hand from Yabu’s grip and covering her wound.
“But… You haven’t seen a doctor yet, okaa-san.” Chihara innocently stated and earned a glare from her mother.
Hikaru prevented all the ways which could lead her to fall for Yabu’s kindness again. She was sure if Yabu kept treating her so caring and tender, she would fall in his arms once more. Afterwards, she would be left alone once again. She did not want to feel it for the second time in her life.
Hearing that statement, Yabu grabbed Hikaru’s hand. “Let me see your wound. I’m a doctor now.” He said worriedly. He had an assumption who dared to hurt Hikaru. And it made him so angry.
“It’s okay… really…” Hikaru refused, trying to drop Yabu’s grip from her.
Yabu pretended not to hear. He dragged Hikaru, forcing her to follow his steps even more.
“AAAWWW!!!!” Hikaru groaned in pain because the pain she felt in her legs. She had been forcing herself to ignore the pain since she had to take Chihara to her kindergarten. And apparently she could not take it anymore. Moreover, Yabu forcefully dragged her.
Yabu turned around and stopped hearing Hikaru’s groan. “Hikaru?” He looked Hikaru already half-bowed down and held her leg. Yabu in an instant understood the situation. He quickly carried Hikaru bridal style and walked further to the school, making the people in the school startled, including Hikaru herself.
“Ya-Ya-Yabu-kun… p-put me down!” Hikaru who could not hide the pink blush on her cheeks ordered as many pairs of eyes glued to them.
“NO!” Yabu refused without stopping his steps or paying attention at the staring and whispering from the people. “Your leg’s hurt too, isn’t it? How long have you endured it? And even you kept walking to the school… what’s on your head actually?” He scolded Hikaru’s careless.
“Nothing.” Hikaru retorted. “And please… put me down! I still can walk by myself.” She insisted. “And I’m not in so bad condition... Don’t…”
Yabu butted in. “Stop being stubborn, Hikaru!” He stopped and stared down at Hikaru. He wondered whether Hikaru did not realize how worried himself. “It can be infected if you leave it alone, Hikaru!” He strongly reprimanded her. “And don’t worry… I won’t give you injection. I know you’re scared of it.” He kept talking and taking Hikaru to the infirmary.
Nakajima frowned looking at the two of them. He definitely saw the care Yabu gave to Hikaru was more than a doctor to his patient. It was more like a boyfriend who was worrying his beloved girlfriend. He was sure if it was not Hikaru who got hurt, Yabu would not carry her like that. The older sensei would not be so upset too.
“Nee… Yabu-sensei and your okaa-san are really close, Chihara-chan.” Ha-chan, out of nowhere, spoke out, making Nakajima jumped due to shocked.
“Ha-chan!” Nakajima muttered, taking a deep breath and caressing his chest.
“Yes…” Chihara who seemed not surprised happily answered. “They’re friends on high school.”
“EH?” Nakajima widened his eyes. Yabu never told him about it.
****
“Aww…” Hikaru winced and tried to hold the pain when Yabu dabbed her wound.
“I’m sorry.” Yabu took slower steps, preventing the cries from Hikaru. Much to his relief, Hikaru’s wound was not so serious, especially the one on her leg. The pain was estimated would go in one-two days. “Hikaru… you have to be more careful.” He casually reminded in spite of his thoughts that wanted to look for the driver.
“I know… I know… and I have said sorry.” Hikaru mumbled. She took Yabu’s advice lightly.
“Hikaru, I’m serious.” Yabu stated in serious tone as well after he finished bandaging her arm. There was not need to bandage the wound on her leg because it was not bleeding.
Hikaru raised her eyebrows seeing Yabu intently stared down at her worriedly.
“Promise me, you’ll be more careful now.” Yabu’s eyes softened as he squeezed Hikaru’s hands, stroking her fingers.
Hikaru could feel Yabu was so tense and he was trembling. “Yabu-kun?” She questioned as she took a better look on him and got worried as well. “What? Are you hiding something?” She intently stared back at Yabu who did nothing but silent.
“Betsuni…” He spoke after two minutes, releasing his hands from Hikaru’s and looking away. There was no way for him to let her know.
“You’re lying, aren’t you?” Hikaru thought inside her heart.
“I think you’d better not go to work today. Just take some rest.” Yabu gave Hikaru advice. “I’ll send Chihara home later.” He offered before Hikaru could open her mouth to protest.
“Thanks…Yabu… what’re you doing???!!!” Hikaru asked as she saw Yabu took her bag on the table and opened it, taking her cell phone.
“I’ll call your boss, telling that you can’t work today.” Yabu muttered while searching a certain number on the contact lists.
“I can do it by myself!” Hikaru snapped because Yabu seemed to meddle in her business too far.
“You think I’m going to trust you to do that?” Yabu countered without bothering himself from searching for the number. “I know you, Hika… You’re a workaholic.” He added and then pressed the ‘dial’ button after finding what he was looking for.
Hikaru sighed and shook her head side to side as Yabu was making a short conversation with her boss. She thought Yabu was still stubborn when it came to his own opinion. Moreover, if he thought it was the right one. She then heard Yabu made a phone call again. This time he called a taxi, making her wondering.
“I’ve called a taxi for sending you home.” Yabu said after he finished his call.
“Ah…”
“No more protest.” Yabu did not let Hikaru to finish.
Hikaru let out another sigh and said nothing. She surely could not beat Yabu’s bossy aura.
The bossy sensei then sat down on his chair, writing something on a paper. It was like a prescription for his special patient.
“Yabu-kun…” Hikaru spoke after a long moment they simply stayed in silence. “What are you hiding from me?” She let out because she still curious about Yabu’s over worried face.
“Like I said before. Nothing.” Yabu answered while looking away.
“Yabu…”
“I’m just worried about you, okay?” Yabu convinced Hikaru. He walked closer to her. “We just met and I… and I…” He a bit hesitated to tell her more.
“And you?”
Yabu was about to answer when someone came in to the infirmary.
“Yabu-sensei, did you call a taxi??” A woman who Hikaru recognized as Ayu-sensei asked.
Yabu nodded. “Yes, I did. Has it come?” Yabu asked back.
“Yes, at the front.” She replied and left the room.
Yabu then put Hikaru’s cell phone back to her bag then handed it to Hikaru.
“Thanks.” Hikaru said as she took her bag.
Yabu then bent down and carried Hikaru bridal style off the bed.
“Ya-Yabu-kun??? What’re you doing??” Hikaru asked, blushing and flustering.
“Taking you to the taxi.” He calmly replied. “I won’t let you walk alone to the gate.”
“But…”
“If you feel embarrassed just hide your face on my chest.” Yabu playfully teased and walked out from the infirmary, heading to where the taxi was waiting.
Hikaru pouted but did accordingly. She could feel how fast Yabu’s heart beat, just as same as hers. She slowly looked up and stunned with him all over again.
Before they reached the taxi, they met Nakajima who a bit startled seeing Yabu and Hikaru.
“Yuuto, I’m going awhile to send her home.” Yabu said to Nakajima. “I’ll be back after making sure she’s at her home.”
“W-what???” Hikaru was surprised. She thought Yabu would only help taking her to the taxi.
“No more protest!” Yabu reminded again.
Nakajima could only nod without saying anything. It was the first time he saw Yabu showed his care to a woman. He was obviously a bit surprised that Yabu could lose her cool in front of Hikaru. He began wondering that Hikaru really had a big influence on his old friend.
