A weird need for honesty. [locked to naughty_tess]

Set a few days after this.It was extremely tempting to just try and continue his life normally, and to hide once again what his new job was going to be, but as hard as he tried he simply couldn't. A part of him argued that no one needed to know anything, that they'd be better off not knowing, but the other part was just too tired at the moment of ( Read more... )

Tess had kept her promise and had not smoked another cigarette since the one pack that had broken her. Unfortunately, she had to start from scratch in the quitting department, and was once again ODing on strong coffee and chewing gum. And, she was grumpy, though not as grumpy as the first time around. At least not because of cigarettes ( ... )

She wasn't really paying much attention to the expression on his face because she was too busy looking at the cats, then reaching down to pick up Lucy. Lily, jealous, meowed and rubbed herself against Michael's leg.

"Sort of. This is Face's cat Lucy. He gave her to me when he left." She held up the cat for him to see. "Say hello to Uncle Michael, Lucy."

ooc: :D And I know I made that icon but it's still hilarious.

When Lily started to rub herself against his leg he was about to move, which was a reaction out of pure instinct, but he was able to keep himself from doing so even if his palms started to sweat a little.

His control, though, was pretty much thrown out the window as soon as she held up the cat. Without even noticing that he did it, he took a small step back. Maybe if he would have remembered on his way over about the cat he could have prepared himself for it, but since he wasn't...

"She's cute," Michael said, keeping up his smile even if it was starting to falter.

ooc: Hee, and so appropriate, too! :D

Tess peered at him, then a sly smile spread across her face. "Oh. Are you afraid of cats?"

It was one of the most hilarious things she'd encountered in a long time, but she kept herself from laughing... for now.

Lily meowed and pawed up Michael's leg. "That means she wants you to pick her up."

"I'm not afraid of cats," he said a little too fast, and a little too defensively to sound convincing.

Looking down at Lily he stared at her for a second before turning to Tess. "...now?" Couldn't she wait until much later, when he got used to being around cats?

Tess was not easily fooled. She kept the smile on her face but didn't laugh like she really wanted to. Instead, she just nodded. "Yes, now. Otherwise, she might claw your leg." She wouldn't, but Michael didn't need to know that right now.

Yes, Tess was mean. It was just too fun to pass up.

Lily clawing at his leg seemed more appealing than having to pick her up (after all, he still had extra bandages at home that he could use, if that was really the case), but since he had said that he 'wasn't afraid of cats,' he knew that he had to.

Shooting the cat a small glare, he started to bend down so he could pick her up but, as soon as he simply touched her, he stood up as quickly as he could at the moment and took another small step back. "I can't," he muttered under his breath as he felt his cheeks starting to redden. "Not right now."

Tess knew she should stop it, but now it had gone too far and she couldn't control her laughter any longer. But rather than braying out loud she buried her face in Lucy's fur and snickered uncontrollably, even though she meant to reassure him and tell him it was okay...

Oh god... Michael just shook his head and looked away, too embarrassed to keep looking at her. "C'mon, just get it over with..."

Embarassed Michael was one of the cutest things she'd ever seen; if he was an average-sized guy it wouldn't be quite as cute, but something about a big, muscly man like him with a red face, afraid of a little cat...

"I'm s-sorry," she tried to explain, still attempting to hold back laughter. She wasn't very successful.

Shaking his head, he turned to her with a sheepish smile. He knew that it was ridiculous for him to be afraid of cats, but...he was.

"It's fine," he said before chuckling under his breath, waiting for her to finish laughing.

Trying to swallow her laughs, she took a deep breath. "Why are you afraid of cats?"

"I, uh... They kinda weird me out." It was a lame excuse, and even he knew it, but it was an automatic response.

Except, since it was Tess and there was very little that he could hide from her... "I had a bad experience with one when I was a kid, and ever since they freak me out."

"Oh really?" She continued cuddling Lucy, who was purring loudly. "Tell me."

Michael watched her as she cuddled the cat, wondering how in the hell she could do such a thing. Just the thought of having a cat so close to him was making him cringe mentally.

"I don't really remember what happened," he said honestly, taking a deep breath. "I tend to block out...experiences sometimes, and that's one of them."

She stared at him. "You can't even remember? Why don't you go to a counselor or something? Or... play with my cats and realise that not all cats are mean or will attack you, but some of them are very sweet, like mine." She held Lucy out to him.
