I'm pretty fucking pissed off to be honest. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was shortlisted in the student category of the Professional Photographer of the Year competition. Got the magazine with the results:
I totally agree. It is an interesting picture, in its way, but quite frankly, to me it looks more like a snapshot. It looks like a photograph I might have taken, rather than someone with real skill. I'm an okay photographer to document personal things, like parties and such, but I wouldn't even dream of entering any of my photos in a contest. Just because I managed to take a cute picture or even an interesting one, that doesn't make a a work of art, imho. I would expect that someone who is not an artist and/or has not interest/doesn't know much about art might not be able to see the difference, but I presume the judges should be knowledgeable if they are judging a contest
