I'm pretty fucking pissed off to be honest. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was shortlisted in the student category of the Professional Photographer of the Year competition. Got the magazine with the results:
Yeah, um... as someone who absolutely sucks at photography, I have taken pictures very close to the screaming child on on accident. Their comments on the overall results is a complete insult. What was this written in?
Dude, I could have taken that picture. I can take good snapshots, some of which I'm very proud of as someone just pointing and clicking. But for someone to win a competition with that type of shot? There's nothing striking about the image at all, and I might even say that I've taken pics that are better (not to be obnoxious!)
The comment about 'appropriate technical profiency' is bullshit as well. Maybe that means you were somehow overqualified and your work was too advanced for that category?
This is what happened every year I took studio art :/ That is a terrible winning photograph, and I bet the guy who took is it laughing his ass off because it was a joke entry or something.
yeah, because screaming little girl is SOOO original. I have seen similar pictures before (many of them) so the "fresh approach to common subjects" is bullshit.
