Eh. The idea of charging an unsuccessful suicide as a crime is a bit, well, daft, in my eyes... Though I'm just cynical enough to call that "Unsuccessful cleansing of the 'pool'", as it were. Nah. We need to worry less about law like that and more about how a murderer can get life, but a rapist gets 6 months.

Suicide and attempted suicide no longer are crimes in Texas.
however, the issue isn't that simple...

i am also in support of cleaning up the gene pool to some degree... and i thoroughly agree that punishments should be proportional to the crimes.

Amen. If I could come up with a charge to put on an unsuccessful suicide, it'd be "MAssive media coverage". Five minutes on Fox News(hey, they would eat this sort of thing up) for the entire world to laugh because the attempter fucked up.

I mean, seriously. If you really want to die, you're gonna be dead. I'd be willing to bet about 85% of all attempted suicides are mainly "Wah." "Help me. I dont feel good about myself. I'm going to do this to the point of "so damned obvious that everyone knows and feels sorry for me."

Yeah. Not a fan of those types.

ultimately, that downward cycle pays off less and less, until one hits rock-bottm, at which point... the option is to either crawl back up, or die for real.

as i have said before, instead of games of deception and defection, i prefer mutually beneficial relationships, like reciprocal altruism, and other forms of evolutionary cooperation

Thanks for reposting this on fb today. I have been talking regularly on the phone recently to an out-of-town friend who I am concerned about. The link from metanoia gave me a few more ideas of things to say and suggest.
