Yay, I'm glad you guys got through the water OK. I've got to say that this is one of the few times I wished I'd been driving an SUV or at least something with better ground clearance than my Saturn Sedan!
How deep was the water you were in yesterday? From what I can see on the net the whole area around Park St was in serious trouble.
We had a Saturn Sedan and traded it in on a small SUV after we tried driving down some forest service roads near Bend, Oregon. The gravel was so big we were afraid it would destroy the undercarriage. We do like to explore the back country when we can.
I was driving from John Nohlan up park to campus right as the rain began, and by the time I got to the underpass under the rail road tracks, the water under there was deep enough to submerge a car, and the standing water in the road was about 3/4 of the way over my tires and my car was intermittently floating and being pulled into the water in the underpass by the current.
I managed to wrestle the car around and headed down regent a couple blocks and ended up pulling over into a parking lot because the water on the street was killing the engine. The water in the parking lot was up over the back tires and soaked the trunk of my car at the highest point -- and the parking lot was protected from the road by a concrete curb, so it was worse in the intersection.

So yeah, serious, serious trouble.
