I've been putting off translating Chapter Eight of the "Our Courage" novelization for a shameful couple of months, because I remember watching the corresponding episode of the TV and feeling a huge amount of vicarious embarrassment. I went to the Marching J charity event today. It was about six hours of standing in line, but they snaked us all over Yoyogi park so it was like a walking hanami tour. I was cold at first but when we got closer everyone was pressed to close that it was quite warm and cozy - Japanese girls wear big fluffy coats and smell good, and they're pretty ( Read more... )

Here in south Ibaraki, I survived the earthquake. We don't have running water so school tomorrow is going to be a smelly affair. We　still have electricity, thank goodness, both for my peace of mind and that of my family and friends back home - I have been voraciously reading and desperately posting on both twitter and facebook, it's a compulsion. I don't know, maybe no one else will see it. I think at least I should get points for inventiveness.

I play the harp, which is rare enough that when people see a harp printed on something they automatically buy it for me. I've gotten oodles of presents this way - jewelry and notebooks and pencils and bags - all with stylized harps on them (mind you, the stylization can get weird - sometimes my inner voice is saying, "that angel could not ( Read more... )

We had another incident - a third-year smashed a trophy from the table outside the staff room through the window. Because he's over fifteen, this time he was actually arrested. But I'm less disturbed than I was last time, since no one was injured, and since he did it in a moment of passion rather than ruthlessly plotting ( Read more... )
