Theater 2.1 project - Demo

Today I removed the trim around the base of the theater room closet, and the wall the closet is in. Then I also removed all the drywall from the inside of the closet, and the wall that the closet is in. It's currently in a huge industrial pile in the middle of the floor. I recommend against fiberglass, cellulose, or anything else that is turned to crap by moisture, in that location. A look at the remaining options will show that you don't need extra thickness to get the same R value with those as you would have from 3.5" of dry, airtight, moisture tight fiberglass. If it's wet and/or air can flow through the space fiberglass is useless.

The upside of buying fiberglass is that it's cheap. The downside is that you get what you pay for.

That's not a bad way to go. You could also try a spray in place polyurethane. There are a few different kinds, and several diffent weights.

I just read a bunch on insulation. Closed cell spray on insulation would be awesome, especially since it comes in soy-based these days and therefore much greener. Too bad you can't install it yourself...
