Here's a comprehensive post of the workarounds for LJ's new comment pages. Feel free to share this, comment on what you've found that can help, etc etc. I'll keep this post open and I'll also update it when new things are brought out!

As of December 21st, there is a temporary work around around the comment page style. The person is still ( Read more... )

I'm using Minimalism with a nice layout from mintyapple and I have subject lines, the dropdown icon menu and browse button, the preview checkbox, and the (Parent) (Thread) links, so for now it's definitely all still there, LJ just built something gross over the top of it.

What's the link for the layout, if you don't mind my asking?

I'm using too corporate on this journal and hold your colour on another with excellent results.

the layout comm mintyapple also has a tag for minimalism layouts with more selection.

Thank you for this post.

All the Minimalism layouts still have individual comment links and the ability to create subjects. The custom comment pages aren't ideal, but they are workable.

You're welcome!

I'll go ahead and add that the Minimalism layouts are still functional with the old style, so thank you for letting me know!

I have come via a long line of links all to do with LJ's new style comments page, so please forgive me for butting in.

I do have a minimalism layout, but cannot change the it to include subject lines and drop down menues. Looks like that can only be done with plus or paid accounts, while mine is still a basic.

Would you have a suggestion?

Thank you.

I totally don't mind people butting in.

As far as your question is concerned, I'm not entirely sure what to do. I know it works for plus and paid accounts, however... Did you try to copy the custom CSS in the link provided for it to work?

Thank you for replying. As I said, I have heard that these things work with plus or paid accounts.

I have not so far tried CSS, because I am a total looby and ejit when it comes to these things as I am afraid my journal will then crash around my ears.
*sighs*

It probably won't, but the box that is seen here is where you would input the CSS that stoppedhiding built. If you need any further assistance, though, I can refer this thread to my friend if you'd like. :D

I have the "Travel Afar" Minimalism style, with custom comment pages turned on under "customize your theme" and then "View all journals and communities in my own style" checked on under Account > Display > Other Journals. This has taken me back to the old commenting system (parent/thread, drop-down, preview) with little fuss. Not pretty but very functional.

Some of these options were a little hard for me to find so I wanted to share!

Ahh, thank you for this!

A note: if you don't have a paid/permanent account, you can't check "View all journals and communities in my own style". However, LJ Hook for Firefox and Livejournal Extension for Chrome allow you that option.

Do you mind providing the links for those extensions?

Thank you! I'm terrible with layouts and CSS, but several of these have laid out all the little steps that are needed, which I need to do anything with layouts.

I totally feel you there, especially with how confusing CSS itself can be. However, you're welcome!
